5.0 out of 5 stars A VERY CONVINCING BOOK--Very well reasoned out.
I have read a number of books attempting to explain what certain prophecies are about. Many are over-speculative, a few are good. This one is probably one of the most convincing one out there.

This 20 Chapter book goes step-by-step through the scriptures and words of prophets to show what this evil organization really is. Here are a few of the chapter titles:

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great and Abominable Church of the Devil, December 5, 2000
By
Maury Jones (Grover, Wyoming USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great and Abominable Church of the Devil (Paperback)
In the Scriptures it mentions the Great and Abominable Church of the Devil as being diametrically opposed to the work of the Lord. Satan's goal is to destroy the free agency of man and to "make man miserable like unto himself". Many biblical scholars have attempted to depict ecclesiastical churches as part of the Great and Abominable. However, H. Verlan Andersen proves, in a very convincing way, that the Great and Abominable Church of the Devil is corrupt government. Only corrupted government can unjustly imprison people and confiscate their property. Only corrupt government, such as Hitler's Third Reich, can declare war on other nations and cause endless misery and suffering. Ecclesiastical churches ask you to participate voluntarily and voluntarily worship God and try to do good to your fellow man. Satan's way is force and coercion. Through reading this book you will get a very great appreciation for the freedoms we have guaranteed by the Constitution and you will commit yourself to seeing that our government stands on firm and right principles.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's like getting hit over the head with a 2x4!, July 19, 2009

This review is from: The Great and Abominable Church of the Devil (Paperback)
I have been reading numerous books the last year or so. Many of the books have actually got me a little fired up and ticked off. Some of the books have caused me to take action. This book was quite different. This book had me thinking and pondering more than any other book. The author has helped my mind to actually think and understand in ways that I have not done in the past. The most reflective book I have ever read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Author Has Undertaken To Analyze Some Of Their Utterances, March 7, 2008

"..... To break this chain of inherited lies, parents must teach their children that God's commandments apply to group action as well as individual action;

that his negative commandments to refrain from evil group action are as important as his affirmative commandments to do good;

that while it is essential to exaltation to identify and join the true Church of Christ, it is also essential to identify and reject the church of the devil.

It is submitted that the prophets have fully disclosed the identity of the devil's church and knigdom and the nature of his plan to destroy free agency.

In this book THE AUTHOR HAS UNDERTAKEN TO ANALYZE SOME OF THEIR UTTERANCES.

1.0 out of 5 stars The G&A CHURCH is a CHURCH Not Gov't! BAD Foundation, August 29, 2009
By
HarryRfromNE (North Shore area of MA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great and Abominable Church of the Devil (Paperback)
The author asserts that the "the great and abominable church" in Book of Mormon: 1 Nephi 13, is government, not actually a church. However, he steers away from the text to his own political agenda, and distorts the text.

The Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 13 claims that the Bible was PURE ("in PURITY") when it was in the hands of the *Jews*, and THEN the *Gentile* 'G&A Church' took many "plain and precious parts" and "covenants", which easrlier are identified as "the covenants made to the house of Israel", out of the Bible.

The BOM says the 'G&A Church' is "abominable ABOVE all OTHER *CHURCHES*", and this CHURCH took corrupted the Bible to "pervert the right ways of the Lord".

1) The church is a church. It was the outward church that had the Bible's manuscripts and transmitted them after the Jews had what they had. The Bible, says the BOM, had BOTH the gospel and the 'Old Testament' covenants to Israel.

It was NOT a gov't.

2) The BOM's claims have been proven as false from the specific chronology of the BOM 1 Nephi 13 itself. When Smith published the BOM in 1830, he was safe in claiming such smears, but no longer.

The Old Testament'/Jewish Scriptures, the Tanack, has the Dead Sea Scrolls:

"Today scholarly opinion regarding the time span and background of the Dead Sea Scrolls is anchored in historical, paleographic, and linguistic evidence, corroborated firmly by carbon 14-datings. Some manuscripts were written and copied in the third century B.C.E., but the bulk of the material, particularly the texts that reflect on a sectarian community, are originals or copies from the first century B.C.E.; a number of texts date from as late as the years preceding the destruction of the site in 68 C.E. at the hands of the Roman legions."

- From "The Dead Sea Scrolls" (article) online by Ayala Sussman and Ruth Peled

When the BOM says the Bible was pure when it was in the hands of the Jews. AFTER the Gentiles in the G&A CHURCH got a hold of it is when it was corrupted.

Well, the Jewish Qumran group was indeed Jewish, not a church, and NOT Gentile, and it preceded the G&A Church, and ended in c. 68 AD, BEFORE the Gentile G&A CHURCH, "which was abominable ABOVE all other CHURCHES" got it, and transmitted it.

The NT manuscripts go back to about 150 AD.

3) Joseph Smith claimed that he received divine revelation to restore the supposed many parts and covenants taken out of the Bible. The Utah LDS/'Mormon' Church calls it the Joseph Smith Translation (NOT a translation from language to language. Misleading word usage), or JST, and the LDS Church officially uses it and quotes it in official LDS Church materials, including their main official website. They also have a section in the main websites "The Scriptures" section with the JST footnotes, and many of the smaller JST alterations given in footnote hyperlinks in the text of the online KJV Bible. Their official LDS Church edition of the KJV Bible also has many, many excerpts, small and radical alterations that are not found in any of the 5-7,000 Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, which includes the separate "Joseph Smith-Matthew", the LDS "Book of Moses" (suppose to be the original opening chapters of Genesis) in their Pearl of Great Price scripture collection.

4) Therefore, not only is the premise of Anderson's book false, but the underlying foundation of Mormonism and the Book of Mormon is also false.

Please steer clear of the falsehoods of Mormonism.
