Well after another long period of time since I have written a review, I was able to catch on some classic wrestling events & Great American Bash 1992 was one of them. Now during this time, we were going through a transitional period in WCW as Bill Watts (remember him?) had token control of WCW & first official act was to have a one night tournament to determine the NWA World Tag Team Champions. Along with that WCW Champion Sting was scheduled to defend his title in what was arguably his toughest test yet in Big Van Vader. Now remember during this Bill Watts era of WCW, there was no mats on the floor & there was a rule in which you come off the top rope, it would result in a disqualification (seriously don't ask). One other thing that should be noted is that during this time, WCW constantly edit down their events to run for 2 hours so with the exception of Sting vs Vader, every match here is edited off a couple of minutes.

Ricky Steamboat & Nikita Koloff vs Brian Pillman & Jushin Liger. This was the first of the quarter finals match of the Tag Team title tournament as it was joined in progress but during that time, you had non-stop action as Pillman & Liger relied on their speed & quickness along with attempting to ground Steamboat at times while Nikita was the powerhouse of the match each time he stepped in before it was one counter mistake that allowed Steamboat & Koloff to qualify to the next round.

Hiroshi Hase & Shinya Hashimoto vs The Fabulous Freebirds. This was joined in progress as well as the team of Hase & Hashimoto dominated this contest with the Freebirds getting a shot here & there including gaining the advantage before it was just too late for them to overcome.

Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham vs Rick Rude & "Stunning" Steve Austin.

I'm doing 1 more review of an old WCW Pay Per View The Great American Bash 1992 the main storyline going into this event was the return of The National Wrestling Alliance. WCW already held the 1st round of The of The NWA World Tag Team Tournament at The Clash Of Champions XIX.The Steiner Brothers were set to face a team from Puerto Rico Terry Gordy & Steve Williams said that they were involved in a car wreck. The Executive Vice President of WCW Bill Watts got to the bottom line The Steiner Brothers got a bye. Watts said that I have talked to both teams & The Steiner's & Williams & Gordy they agreed to start the 1st round of The Quarter Finals Williams & Gordy won the match to advance to The Semi Finals. On July 5th at monthly Omni Show Williams & Gordy defeated The Steiner Brothers to win The WCW World Tag Team Championship. The Steiner Brothers won The IWGP World Tag Team Championship around this time however. They also said on The July 11th episode of WCW Saturday Night that they would be at The Bash. Also at The Clash Of Champions XIX Steve Austin & Rick Rude, Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat & Nikita Koloff, Hase & Nogami, The Freebirds & Jushin Liger & Brian Pillman all advanced to The Semi Finals. At The July 5th Omni Show Brad Armstrong defeated Scotty Flamingo to win The WCW Lightheavyweight Championship. The 2nd storyline going into this show was the feud with Sting & Big Van Vader going back to March 21st when he was attacked by Vader then on The 12th of April when Vader injured Sting's ribs. On The July 1th episode of WCW Saturday Jim Ross interviewed Harley Race he said that Sting's career is over in 24 hours. During The 30 Minute Pre Show before The Bash hosted by Eric Bischoff & Jesse Ventura Sting & Race had a face to face.Read more ›
