I was very excited to discover The Great American Horse Book, but horrified at what I found inside. Factual and grammatical errors are found on several pages; for example, the book claims Tennessee Walking Horses are not found in the color black. The TWHBEA and the registered black TWH I know beg to differ! If you are an experienced horse person, you may find some amusement at this book's interpretation of horse "facts," but if you are seeking a book to educate yourself or others, please steer clear of this one! The only lessons it has to offer are about the importance of a good copy editor, and how to NOT write a book.

I spoke with a representative from the publishing company Really Big Coloring Books, who informed me the book was put together by the AQHA and the State Horse Councils Alliance. As a Quarter Horse owner and member of the equine community, that information is just embarrassing. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for an equine coloring book.

I purchased a copy of this giant book and my kids totally love it. Having raised horses for nearly 3 decades, I understand a little about horses and can really say this book is a good horse book for kids. The equine community did a great thing having written and designed this book for children. Truly it is a great source of facts on horses and a fun book for everyone to enjoy, read and color. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about horses. What a great way to get kids involved with horses.
