David Ewen did his customary good-research on this book. Published in 1972. Starting with Stephen Foster and the beginnings of American popular song composers, this is a joyful read. Cole Porter,Harold Arlen & Co. litter the biographical pages. Mr. Ewen's final entry is of Johnny Cash.
