Book Description

June 19, 2012
A Ph.D. in sex appeal ?

Grace Cavanaugh is hell-bent on proving her Women’s Studies dissertation thesis that beauty only leads to misery. And what better research subject than her great-aunt Sophia, a former B-movie star? Now eighty-five and facing surgery, Sophia has asked Grace for company. . . .

Grace imagines a helpless, lonely old woman, forced to turn to a great-niece she barely knows. Instead she finds the aging diva holding court in a Pebble Beach mansion, oozing a bombshell-itude—arthritis and wrinkles be damned—that captivates every male in sight. To Grace’s dismay, her greataunt decides a perfect distraction would be transforming the frumpy feminist into a femme fatale who purrs for her suitors . . . or devours them. She ordains classes in everything from carb cutting to lingerie, culminating in a challenging final exam. The newly svelte Grace must test her wiles—on both devilishly handsome and morally corrupt Declan and sensitive but painfully awkward Dr. Andrew.

Newly unleashed desires—and the discovery of a closely held family secret— threaten the bookworm-turned-babe’s entire feminist upbringing. Her thesis gone sadly awry, Grace wonders if her great-aunt is right: Will trusting her heart lead her to find beauty in the most unexpected places?

More About the Author

Lisa Cach is the award-winning author of more than twenty romantic novels and novellas, ranging across sub-genres from Paranormal, Historical, Contemporary, and Chick Lit, to Young Adult. Her novel "Dating Without Novocaine" was named one of Waldenbooks' "Best Books of 2002," and she is a two-time finalist for the prestigious RITA Award from the Romance Writers of America.

Lisa Cach was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, where she still lives today. Her professional background includes teaching conversational English in Japan, and several years working the graveyard shift on a mental health crisis line. She has traveled to the foothills of the Himalaya, the jungles of Borneo, the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, and the painted caves of the Perigord Noir, in France. She has sailed the Caribbean as a working crew member of a research schooner, and the Bering Sea as a guest on a small ship.

Her love of travel has lately given way to pursuits closer to home: cooking, gardening, drawing. And, of course, reading. Her favorite book has always been Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre", while the only book to ever give her nightmares was Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

2.0 out of 5 stars Frviolous Waste of Time July 29, 2012
Format:Paperback
Grace Cavanaugh is a young, slightly overweight, insecure woman who is spending the summer in Pebble Beach, CA with her Great-Aunt Sophia, where she intends to research and write her dissertation for her Ph.D in Women's Studies. Her Great-Aunt Sophia is a former "B" movie-star and bombshell beauty who is on a mission to transform her Great-Niece into a younger version of herself.

There were so many times during the course of this book where I wanted to simply close it, put it away, and never pick it back up again. The plot was predictable. The characters were so stereotypical and some of the literary devices the author used were so awful it made me cringe to read them.

When I read, "...sex appeal wafted off him like cologne off a hot lightbulb. He steamed with it." on page 10 I wanted to close it right there and give up. That was simply awful use of simile and I was afraid the entire book was going to be that horrid. It wasn't. After approximately page 50 the weak literary devices like that were pretty much over and Lisa Cach focused more on building the characters and the plot. The problem remained however that both the characters and the plot were weak and stereotypical.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Aunt Sophia guarentees to delight! June 23, 2012
Format:Paperback
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. - Confucius

Great Aunt Sophia sees the beauty in Grace ... and seeks to reveal it to Grace by any means possible. Grace thought she was spending the summer with an elderly aunt and writing her feminist thesis. Instead, Grace sees her aunt, and even herself, in a different light.

GREAT AUNT SOPHIA'S LESSONS FOR BOMBSHELLS is a light hearted beach read just as Great Aunt Sophia would want it to be. It offers laugh out loud moments as Sophia teaches Grace women's studies outside academia; heartwarming scenes as Grace discovers her inner vixen; and va-va-voom with sexy Declan.

Cast aside your own inhibitions and have fun with Great Aunt Sophia!

5.0 out of 5 stars Living vicariously... October 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a delightfully fun romp to take with Grace. Perhaps I related a little too much to her attitudes and perceptions at the beginning of the book, but in life have also learned to let go and have fun with being a girl! This book was great and I found myself smiling and laughing as I read along. If you want to have a light-hearted romp along with some delicious romance, meet Sophia and Grace.
