We entertain at our home for friends and family on most holidays and usually we do sort of a pot-luck type set-up for food. Everyone brings something so we end up having all kinds of fun foods to share. Our family friends are so much more creative than I am when it comes to the foods they bring. I tend to buy or cook typical foods, and they all come up with such neat crafty-like appetizers. So when I saw this cheese ball book, I knew I just had to get it. It's filled with really simple yet really unique ideas for decorative and delicious cheese balls. Examples include a Ham and Cheese Easter Egg, a Cranberry and Rosemary Christmas Ornament and an adorable Chilly Penguin cheese ball that's made with blue cheese and poppy seeds.

These are exactly the kinds recipes I was looking to make. Decorative and using a wide variety of ingredients. You'll be using so much more than just cheese, seasonings and mixed nuts. They are the kinds of recipes that make everyone stop and go "Oh that's so neat!". Also, while the holiday cheese balls are the ones I'm most interested in, there are far more than just Christmas or Easter recipes inside. There are wine cheese balls, veggie cheese balls, and even a whole chapter of desert balls, like the Oreo Cheesecake Truffle ball. All having ornate and fun plating designs. The recipes in this book are very fun and creative. They're sure to be a hit any time you serve them.

I like cheese balls and always have. Even the horrible ones that were all over the place when I was a kid.

This collection of sweet and savory are easy to make, and some of them are in fun shapes. The flavors are fantastic- instead of the super salty, unreasonably orange balls from cocktail parties past these are made using real cheeses with seasonings and toppings that combine well for good flavors. Like the Buffalo Chicken ball uses buffalo chicken sauce and chicken mixed with 3 flavors of cheese including blue cheese. Lots of great savory recipes that will be a regular for my family, and the sweet recipes make for interesting desserts that will invite conversation.

They are all very easy to make, and all the recipes so far have been a hit with my family. Tonight I plan to make the chocolate/peanut butter ball. I also really like the quick tips for dressing up goat cheese logs.

This small book if full of nice and easy recipes. The book not only contains recipes but also hints on how to decorate them and what goes with what. The recipes are organized by savory, sweet, etc. and each one comes with a full page picture (I also enjoy pictures, not only as inspiration but also as guide).

I tried only one, so far. The recipe used port wine (which I happened to have). It was really easy and the flavor was quite enjoyable.

This book is going to stay on my shelf. I am sure I will used it quite a bit. Ideal for small gatherings ... both as a host or as a guest.

This is such a fantastic book! The directions are easy to follow and the pictures in the book are beautiful! My four year old helped me make our first cheese ball, the Nacho Cat, and we're hooked! It was a fun activity for the two of us to do together and she loved decorating the cat. To top it all off, the cheese ball was delicious! I highly recommend this book! It's recipes are great to make for yourself and easy enough to make for a party without worrying if it will look like the picture in the book. Whichever you decide to make, I'm sure it will be a crowd pleaser!

One of my aunt's has always been famous for her parties. Assuming there are no weddings or baby showers to contend with, she throws two a year - one at the holidays, another in high summer. There are always 100 or more guests, she does all of her own catering and she has always astounded me by managing to remain in the swimming pool all afternoon, right up until an hour and a half or so before her guests begin to arrive! One thing her parties always feature is a cheese ball or two. A quick glance inside the cover of Great Balls of Cheese will show you why. Nearly all of the included recipes serve 15-20 guests - more if they are just part of a variety of offerings.

My aunt has always presented her holiday cheese balls as pine cones (mold the cheese into a cone shape, then cover it with spirals of whole almonds.) I don't have that kind of patience to be honest - I would rather fuss over the desserts - so I paid lots more attention to the flavors of Michelle Buffardi's cheese balls than the creative factor. (I tend to present mine as balls rolled in something.) There are some real winners here! The Spider is perfect for your Halloween bash, the Mexican Black Bean Ball and the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Ball will be perfect additions to your game day spread, and if you prefer to entertain with a brunch like I do, you'll find a variety of flavors that would be perfect for a help-yourself Bagel Bar - a Lox Bagel Ball perhaps, or if you prefer a sweet note with plain bagels, try Pumpkin-Pumpkin, a Patriotic Berry Cheese Ball or an Orange Creamsicle Cheese Ball. You'll also find several cute ideas for individual "bites" - tiny mice, witches hats, and the like.

Grandma's $0.02 - Great flavors and cute-as-a-bug's-ear presentation ideas make this a nice little specialty book that would be a perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer.
