1.0 out of 5 stars Thin content. Limited cuisines. Uninteresting recipes.
This book was intended to boost butter consumption from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. The recipes do not make imaginative or interesting use of butter, are very limited to middle-America type recipes, and lack any insight you would not already have in other basic cookbooks.

This book was intended to boost butter consumption from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. The recipes do not make imaginative or interesting use of butter, are very limited to middle-America type recipes, and lack any insight you would not already have in other basic cookbooks.

If you are looking for some interesting butter-related recipes, a third of Fat: An Appreciation of a Misunderstood Ingredient, With Recipes is dedicated to butter, and is vastly better researched.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful "buttery" book!, June 12, 2008

This is a beautiful book--literally! It's pleasing to the eye and the recipes are pleasing to the palate! They are very classic recipes. I haven't yet checked to see if they call for more butter than is normal but I suspect they do not. At any rate, you will be pleased with photographs of many recipes and the fact that there are so many classic recipes included.

4.0 out of 5 stars don't get giggy about the title, March 24, 2010

the butter cookbook has become one of my "go to" cookbooks. i bought one for me, then sent one to my mom--she loved it, as well. it is not a cookbook that starts with a pound of butter in each recipe; it's a cookbook full of good recipes with good ingredients. i would rather eat tasty food with good ingredients; so, i rarely substitute anything for butter taste-i just eat less. i highly recommend this cookbook and feel sure that you'll find some new family favorite recipes!

Made the Buttermilk Pancakes this morning...awesome raves from my Columbus bed and breakfast guests! This may become my "signature" pancake breakfast! Have prepared several other dishes from the book and all were great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book -- and not over the top butter despite the title, August 30, 2010

My mom is a librarian and brought this home for me because she thought I might like to see it. I was thrilled with the book because so many of the recipes are simple, the ingredient lists are short and most recipes consist of things you can easily find in your local supermarket. The sheer number of recipes is fantastic. Beyond that, while I see that butter is included in every recipe, it's not over the top -- it's no more than you'd find in a similar recipe in another cookbook. I expected it to be artery clogging city, but was surprised to find that the recipes remind me ones in my grandmother's old recipe box -- just good old-fashioned cooking in some instances. I ended up finding this book for under $10 online and snapped it up. It's like a textbook in size so you truly get your money out of it. I'm very happy with this book, plus, it's a beautiful book. It will make a nice addition to my cookbook library.
