This book was able to capture every aspect of BASE jumping and relay it in an way that is interesting to jumpers and non jumpers. I am a BASE jumper and I found that the information in this book has greatly enhanced my respect for the sport. It covers everything from the history of BASE jumping, to understanding the weather and it's effect on the decision to jump or not to jump off of a cliff. It is also packed with many entertaining short stories of intense experiences written by some of the most well known people in the sport.

If you ever considered jumping off of buildings, antennas, spans, and earths
then you need to buy and read this book immediately. The author succeeded in
compiling stories from the edge, amazing photographs of nature, and lots of
valuable data in a very readable and organized format.
If you are not a parachutist I think you will still enjoy seeing the beautiful
images and hearing the very exciting tales from our crazy adventures. Of course
if you are shopping for a loved one who jumps then put this in your cart now!

OK, so this book might not actually save you, but it might kill (or at least squelch) any notions you may be harboring about your invincibility. Gerdes reminds you--sometimes ad nauseam--that BASE could easily take your life. If it saves you from ever trying BASE, it has served its purpose, IMHO. It also serves as an excellent biography of the sport and its pioneers. Great for those involved in insanely risky and exciting sports, and for those who get their fill of adrenaline by just reading about these endeavors.
