5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST
I can't believe I'm the first person to review this book after all these years. This book is one of the true classics in puzzle history. If you are a true lover of logic and thinking skills, then this is a must. I have spent the better part of 40 years collecting the best puzzles and this heads the list. Maybe the reason it has never been reviewed is that it is a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining but could be improved
This is a challenging book of puzzles; what I really liked about it was that after each puzzle there's a section that gives you some hints (or "solution schemes"), and then in the back of the book there are the solutions.

Sometimes I found that the "hints" really weren't really very helpful, and sometimes it would have been helpful if the solutions had gone into more...

I can't believe I'm the first person to review this book after all these years. This book is one of the true classics in puzzle history. If you are a true lover of logic and thinking skills, then this is a must. I have spent the better part of 40 years collecting the best puzzles and this heads the list. Maybe the reason it has never been reviewed is that it is a demanding array of puzzles...not for the faint of heart.Thank you, Mr. Summers, for hours of pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Excellent!, July 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Great Book of Mind Teasers & Mind Puzzlers (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for anyone who wishes to develop his or her deductive reasoning and problem solving skills. It does not only provide you with solutions, but shows you step by step how to get there.Up until quite recently I thought that the ability to reason logically is inborn, but after doing a little research I realized that it is a skill that can be developed with the aid of good quality books such as The Great Book of Mind Teasers & Mind Puzzlers. It is definitely a book that can make you feel that your reasoning abilities can be developed beyond the ones that you currently have.

Sometimes I found that the "hints" really weren't really very helpful, and sometimes it would have been helpful if the solutions had gone into more detail and/or have been written more clearly. Sometimes they were hard to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book of analytical puzzles, August 29, 2008
This review is from: The Great Book of Mind Teasers & Mind Puzzlers (Paperback)
This is a book of solid analytical puzzles - not the gotcha variety which fill many of those "lateral puzzle" books, where the solution rests on the ambiguity of a question or the knowledge of some obscure tit-bit. The puzzles themselves are clearly and unambiguously stated, but are tough enough to keep you occupied for a while. I was a college student when I went through this book over a weekend about 15 years ago - as a testament to this book, I still remember it a wife and 3 kids later. My advise is to break out a pen and a paper and not to look at either the hints or the solutions.

I bought this for 4th grade students and I think it is to hard for them. It is more for adults.
