Host Rick Steves brings his wife and two children along on this trip, focusing on sights that will keep the whole family entertained during their vacation. Their journey begins with a quick tour of London's greatest hits (interestingly, a different itinerary from Steves's London program). Then, using London as their home base, the family embarks on a series of daylong train trips into the English countryside. From punting on the River Cam in Cambridge to trying on Shakespearean costumes in Stratford-upon-Avon, Steves always finds activities that make each town enjoyable for both kids and adults. In the second half of the program, the family ventures into North England, where they take a Ghost Trail tour of York (allegedly the most haunted town in Britain), ride Europe's tallest roller coaster in the resort town of Blackpool, and wax poetic at William Wordsworth's cottage in the scenic Lake District. Along the way, Steves sprinkles travel tips like breadcrumbs to help future travelers find their way. His sense of humor is matched by his sense of history, making this hourlong excursion as entertaining as it is informative.
