After coming back from Rome and Pompeii, we found this video very interesting, historically and entertainingly. The way the ancient cities are recreated with the computer animation is a plus. We would recommend it to anyone interested in history or traveling.

Although this video is a nice survey of information about the cities, it's production value was mediocre at best, and the educational content was sparse. The presentation was monotonous and literally put my students to sleep. Even I was hard-pressed to keep my eyes open and I'm fascinated by the subject. There are too many better videos out there on the subject to waste your time here.

Informative video,

This is a good video, very informative. It compares favorably with, for instance, National Geographic and Reader's Digest videos. The computer recreates of the ancient structures are good. When superimposed on the modern grounds, you can see it's artificial because the lighting is wrong. It would be nice if all ancient structures that can be restored and rebuilt are done so.
The video could have had normal color footage, instead of that faded black and white footage for the ancient everyday scenes. At the end of the other video about Egypt, it says that there is a lot known, and unknown, about ancient Egypt. It would also apply to ancient Rome (and so on). This Rome one is approximately 60 minutes, and could have been longer. The other two, Egypt and Greece, are approximately 75 minutes each. This Rome one could then have included the Pantheon in Rome, and Stabiae (by Vesuvious). This series of 3 should also be available on DVD.
