Well Played, But Not What I Was Looking For,
By
This review is from: 41 Great College Footbal Victory Songs (Audio CD)
The University of Michigan band plays these 41 songs very well. However, the style is not what I was looking for. I wanted to hear the fight songs the way I would hear them on Saturday afternoon at the stadium. Instead, they play the music way I would hear it at the end-of-the-year sit-down concert in the auditorium. Even with their own "The Victors" fight song. Not the CD I would play to get pumped up for the big game. If you're looking for the marching band type of sound, try "Touchdown!" by Florida State's band. It's available here on Amazon.com.

Good, but doesn't make you feel like Saturday afternoon.,

A lot of fight songs from major colleges are excluded in favor of Yale, Harvard, Washington & Lee, Cornell, Columbia, and weird songs like 76 trombones. Since it's done by U of M band, Victors sounds great, as well as most Big Ten ones.

This collection of college songs is large and includes more songs than other such collections. The songs are all well played and consistent with the style required for college fight songs.

I don't know about all these negative reviews from people begging for some SEC fight songs & referring to this album as "trash" because it's "...nothing but a bunch of northern university music" -- this album is very diverse, very good quality sound, includes probably the 2 best fight songs ever written (and that's not my opinion, but John Phillip Sousa's, who I think knew alittle bit about music & marches), the "Victors" and the "ND Victory March"....overall I think it is probably the most complete "package" of college spirit available. ....and what is everyone crying for al the SEC stuff in these other reviews - most of those "fight" songs sound like carnival music.

This is a very good recording. It brings back a lot of memories. It is almost as good as The University of Michigzn Band's recording "A Saturday Tradition". I should have given it 5 stars but they included OSU's fight song. GO BLUE.

They're Arrangements,

Nobody can fault the performance - Michigan (along with Illinois) has the best concert band around. But these are arrangements of the fight songs, not the original versions - at least for the Big 10. They won't do much for your next tailgate.

The Legendary Revelli at His Best,

This review is from: 41 Great College Footbal Victory Songs (Audio CD)
This set was originally released on vinyl on the Vanguard label in the early 1960s. It is a classic performance by the University of Michigan Band under the direction of the legendary William D. Revelli. It presents a compendium of the most famous college fight songs in America, most of them specially arranged for this recording, though several of them, including a phenomenal reading of "The Victors", are straightforward originals. The collection is also dotted with marches which aren't directly related to college football, among which are "The Colossus of Columbia," "Pride of the Ilini" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever." As might be expected of any band conducted by Revelli, this lives up to the highest expectations. I rate it five stars, and would probably rate it ten stars if there were such a rating. If you're into college football or even just into marches as such, this album is definitely your ticket to some wonderful pleasure. It will provide you with over 80 minutes of continuous great listening on 2 very clean-sounding CDs.

The greatest college band. The greatest fight song named by John Philip Sousa, The VICTORS. The greatest Marching band conductor in the long history of the U of M. they even play the OSU song with real emotion.
A MUST FOR ALL COLLEGE FOOTBALL FANS

Misses probably the most rousing fight song in all of college sports, "Hail State," the Mississippi State University fight song.
