Excellent!,

This review is from: Great Composers Series (Audio CD)
A great composer who left a legacy of great music. I would highly recommend this 2-CD set. You can purchase the "Joe Versus the Volcano" CD at intrada.com. There are only 3,000 of these CDs in print so buy it quickly.

"seemingly bottomless well of melodic inspiration",
This review is from: Great Composers Series (Audio CD)
Truly a great composer, Georges Delerue is responsible for some of the most beautiful music ever written. This volume of his works verges on the incalculable widely expansive, while at the same time representative of a mere fraction of this legendary composer's output.Delerue was born in Roubaix, France in 1925, rose to prominence in the film world during the '60s - received an Academy Award nomination in 1985 for his resplendent score for "AGNES OF GOD", simply a superb introspective and revealing film score. The body of work left after the passing of an artist is their gift to the world - Delerue's gift was of happiness and joy. A big thank you to - Robert Townson (producer), Richard Kraft(producer), Frank Fitzpatrick (producer), Erick Labson (mastering engineer)...none of this would possible except for one generous man and who will be missed - GEORGES DELERUE! Total Time: Disc One 77:12 on 13 Tracks & Disc Two on 11 Tracks...Varese Sarabande 302 066 223 2...(2001)

Black Robe,
By A Customer
This review is from: Great Composers Series (Audio CD)
I bought this CD solely for the piece from the film Black Robe which is hauntingly beautiful music. For some reason it reminds me of Ennio Morricone's music from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, although it is slower. Delerue composed music to a number of great movies.

Like eating an entire box of bonbons!,

I'm not sure anyone should listen to this entire two-CD compilation in one sitting, but Delerue's melodies are such irresistable confections that it's hard to stop once you start. I had long sought the gorgeous title music from "Rich and Famous" and was thrilled to find it here, but there is so much more. The morose music for "Platoon" (apparently Oliver Stone laid in Barber's "Adagio for Strings" to cut the film and then decided to keep it rather than use Delerue's composition, which is in a similarly slow and solemn spirit), and excerpts from "Beaches," "Steel Magnolias," "A Little Romance," and "Agnes of God" are among my favorites here. "Black Robe," one of the great film scores of the 1990s, is well-represented in a suite.
Buyers or potential buyers of this two-disk set should be aware that these selections were culled from the previously released "London Sessions," on three single CDs, also on the Varese Sarabande label. Delerue completists would probably want to seek out those CDs first, since they contain some cuts not on this twin set -- "An Almost Perfect Affair," "Salvador," and "True Confessions" among them. On the other hand, suites from "Rich in Love" and "Black Robe" apparently are NOT on the "London Sessions," so owning all the cuts requires a lot of duplication. It also should be noted that this two-CD compilation and the "London Sessions" CDs contain mostly music from the later, "American" phase of Delerue's career. Other than the "Homage to Truffaut," there is little to represent his work prior to 1979. I can recommend the "Music for the Films of Francois Truffaut" compilation by Leon Wolff and the London Sinfonietta on Elektra/Asylum CDs as a suitable representation of Delerue's collaborations with that celebrated director, and there are numerous other compilations and soundtracks of Delerue's music if you want to do some Internet searching and can locate the rarer ones. Delerue died in 1992. This two-CD compilation ain't perfect, but it's a highly enjoyable introduction to his late work.

Delerue,
By A Customer
This review is from: Great Composers Series (Audio CD)
Great compilation of missed French composer. Great price for a two disc set. The sad thing is not that it's missing any music from Joe versus the volcano, but that his work from The Black Stallion Returns can't find a home on any cd not to mention COMPILATION. The highlight for me on this two disc set is the music from Her Alibi. This two disc is all beautiful, all french and all worth it!

You've undoubtedly heard that CD's are "dead" and before this disappears forever, get it. I have to admit, if it hadn't been for "Steel Magnolias" I would have never known Delerue, but after purchasing this CD I was stunned by the number of familiar movies he had scored and the quality of the music.

Steel Magnolias Original Soundtrack CD,
This review is from: Great Composers Series (Audio CD)
I know the original soundtrack for "Steel Magnolias" has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Please advise on the title of the song that is played during the film when Sally Field is driving to Aunt Fern's home to pick up Julie Robert's little boy. Is it contained on the Great Composer Georges Delerue CD?
Thank you for your time.

I Just Wanna Say One Thing!,

This review is from: Great Composers Series (Audio CD)
Okay I Heard The CD and Thought It Was Wonderful and I will Defiantly Buy it, but I just want to say One Thing! Where is the music for Joe Versus The Volcano? I mean they put the music for Something Whicked This Way Comes on there and he didn't even do the score for the movie! Yes, I know his score was rejected for that movie, but they have that and they don't have the music for Joe Versus the Volcano? I don't know, I guess I'm just upset cause they never released a soundtrack for Joe Versus the Volcano and heard there was a Georges Delerue cd compilation coming out and I was hoping above all films that would be on it, you know so I could at least have that music on cd! I just love the music for that movie and it's the first movie that introduced me to the Late Georges Delerue's wonderful film composing talent! Oh well, here's hoping for a Volume 2!
