Book Description

Ben Jenkins’s corporate career is killing him slowly with boredom whilst his boss, Rupert Savage, has the potential to kill him quickly with his bare hands.

It seems as though he has everything; a good job, a loving family and great friends, but the thought of spending the next thirty years in the corporate world is making him desperately, desperately miserable.

He’s lost but dreams of escape, and the only refuge he has is his imagination. The more obsessed he becomes the more his imagination takes hold, until he’s only left with one option…

… to take freedom into his own hands.

The Great Corporate Escape is a comedy for anyone who has ever had trouble finding out what's important in their life.

About the Author

Michael J Holley writes comedy fiction. He is the author of The Great Corporate Escape and The Christmas Number One (and other Christmas Stories). He was born in Southampton, England in 1977, and since then has lived in Liverpool and Manchester, but now he rests in Cowes on the Isle of Wight with his wife and two children. Having been the taller half of the rhythm section for the indie-rock band Aura4, Michael still enjoys listening to proper music and tinkering around on his guitars. He also loves watching and playing football, watching comedy, reading things that are either going to enrich his life or make him laugh, and he still finds time to be a raconteur in the local hostelries. His next full-length novel, Plaster Scene, will be out in the summer of 2013. You can follow him on Twitter @mjholleywriter Or, visit his website

As someone who has been in a similar position to Ben's predicament this book was a really accurate refection of office life. If you're stuck in a job and can't see a way out you'll find Ben tackles this in a way most of us would just sit and dream about. I was given this book by a friend and was amazed to find it was the author's first novel. It is written with humour but still tackled head on the work-trap issues that its easy to get stuck in. I won't spoil the plot but cuddly eagles, nervous twitches and golden tickets keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm going to go out of my way to read the next one when it comes out. If its as good as this one, then roll on number 3 as well.

If you liked the movie Office Space, or can relate the the TV show The Office you will enjoy this book. Ben Jenkins is so bored and miserable with his job, but can't seem to find a way out. Readers can relate to all the little moments that can be hilarious and ridiculous when working in corporate industry. The office parties, cubicle gossip, and daily happenings of office poitics are immediately relatable. Even if you never have worked in corporate industry you will enjoy this book. The humor is witty and the characters are well rounded and deep. This a a great read!

3.0 out of 5 stars wish only the best. May 19, 2013
Looking forward to Micheal's next venture. This freshman offering had some engaging chapters which had me along for the ride, but, a few areas had me wanting for more (meat and potatoes.) I thought it was a nonfiction for most of the book, but didn't realise, until the last page that it was a comedy nonfiction! Lastely,..remember, You American readers, that Micheal is British. There for, there will be times when you will have to backtrack to grasp the english (British) grammar. Well done! Mike,Chase your dreams.

More About the Author

Michael J Holley is the author of three comedy novels; Cast in the Summer of Love, The Great Corporate Escape and The Christmas Number One.

His stand-alone stories tend to be funny, plot-driven adventures littered with interesting characters from the real world. They are almost as good for escaping as a hacksaw baked into a Victoria Sponge.

After being born in Southampton, he had spells in Liverpool, Manchester and Stockholm before realising that an international career in accountancy was finally threatening to destroy his best years. Thankfully, three years ago he upped and moved his family to the Isle of Wight, and has been a full-time writer ever since.

His website, which focuses on indie-publishing, has received over 100,000 views, he has published a guide to self-publishing and is regularly running self-publishing courses across the country.

Having been the taller half of the rhythm section for the indie-rock band Aura4, Michael still enjoys listening to proper music and playing in bands. He also loves watching and playing football, swimming, reading (of course) and drinking good coffee.
