My fiance and I are currently reading through "10 Great Dates Before You Say 'I Do'" and we both are learning a lot about our communication styles and issues that need to be discussed before our wedding day. We are in a couple's bible study group and have used one of the dates as a group in order to have realistic expectations, hopes, and dreams. This book is a great way to share your ideas and realize some fun and interesting facts about your partner. The book set-up is great because it actually sets you up to go on a date. First you read the chapter (my fiance and I usually read it aloud together), then after the chapter it tells you to go to a specific location that is ideal for discussing the chapter (of course, this is optional but always fun!). At the back of the book are worksheets that both you and your significant other fill out and then together on the date you discuss your answers in regards to the topic and chaper that you read. A great way to open up communication... At the end there are bonus dates that encourage you to continue practicing what you have learned throughout the week. A great tool! One of my favorite things to do as I prepare for marriage...

If you are thinking of or planning on getting married this book is fantastic. My husband and I got it about 6 months before we got engaged and went through the 10 dates. It is a great conversation starter and just plain fun to plan dates (especially dates that focus on your relationship rather than wedding planning which can be consuming!).

I liked this book and it was good for my boyfriend and I to go through at different times during our relationship. The book brought up important topics that need to be discussed before you make the committment of marriage. The book brought up some very touchy subjects between us and also started some heated discussions but it ultimately brought us closer together which is what we needed. We don't have everything figured out of course but we are steps closer to having a good solid foundation to our relationship which will carry over to our marriage.

I like this book a lot! So far this is the best one I have read with my future husband. We had a hard time getting through these types of books before because we have been dating for quite sometime (5 years) and know a ton about each other. This book has helped us communicate more effectively and brought us through some tough issues. We have learned more about each other and we both really enjoy it. The dates are fun and simple and adaptable. This book has brought us closer together and enhanced our relationship. I would def. recommend it to any engaged/ almost engaged couple.

My fiance and I were excited to get this book. We love the idea of going on specific dates, especially to help us talk through things in a structured way that we have only mentioned in passing, have avoided, or would have otherwise not thought of. Although the dates are good for stimulating discussion, it is a lot more basic than we expected. Additionally, this book does not seem to base their discussion on any theory or current literature or practices. For example, the personality section seemed to include made-up categories and left out some big important ones. It would be better if they used something like the Myers-Briggs categories and then added additional things (such as morning person vs night owl) that are relevant to couples. While the book seems to be written for younger couples who have had fewer life experience with such interpersonal matters, we are going to continue to complete all of the dates, because they are great for stimulating discussion, even if that discussion ends up as "it would have been better if the authors did _____."

My boyfriend and I bought this book off Amazon after seeing it at our church's bookstore. We have seriously been thinking about getting engaged and we thought this book would be one tool to help us make that decision. I love how its easy to read and easy to follow. It definitely gives you a chance to discover each others decision making process as it contains to financial issues, communitaion issues and wants annd needs out of life. The chapters are nice and short; it was also very helpful to have suggestions on where to go on each date as it pertains to the topics and topic sentences to help jump start the conversation. It's a great excuse to go on 10 dates and REALLY get to know each other.

Great Purchase! I want to buy this book for my friends who are in serious relationships and newly married too! If you have the right mindset going into it that yes, although these are "date" nights yet you still will be having serious conversations...some which might be a little more tense than others. Ultimately though, they are things that should and need to be discussed before taking your relationship to the next level. My boyfriend and I have really enjoyed even the ritual of setting a specific time each week to have uninterruped time together. I'm so glad I bought this book.

A friend of ours recommended this book to us when we got engaged.... we went through the book while going through marriage couseling at church. We found that this book allowed us to talk about relevant topics at our pace and it gave us the guidance that we needed to discuss topics in great detail. We just bought this for a family member that just got engaged too!

My husband and I met with Natelle and Curt twice in the fall of 2005 before we were married in summer 2006. We also used the 10 dates in the book. I am so glad that we took the time to answer all of the hard questions and to "lay it all our on the table". We discussed everything from sex and finances to religion and how to fight fair. I didn't think that we really needed to do premarital counseling because I assumed that we already knew each other well enough to get engaged. However, after we were married my husband lost his job (for a year!), we sold our house and moved to the 'burbs and had a baby. These are all stressful and exciting things to happen. We never would have made it through all of these events without the help of this book. Our marriage is stronger than ever. I credit this book with saving us.

This book is both helpful and touching. It fosters communication, and covers many topics that are often ignored yet absolutely need to be discussed before marriage. This is a great resource for any couple exploring long-term commitment. It is set up in a really useful way that has you explore topics by yourself before discussing them together. This allows you to form separate opinions before convening, which can lead to some really great idea building. I am thoroughly impressed with the 10 dates and feel as though it is a necessity for any couple.
