Book Description

2006
February 11, 2007 marked the 22nd anniversary of the "The Great Debate: Does God Exist?," a debate between Dr. Bahnsen and Dr. Stein. As time passes, it is important that we continue to introduce people to Dr. Bahnsen's work in Christian Apologetics. This new multi-media edition provides a wealth of introductory materials, useful for individuals and schools. These recordings were digitally remastered from the original reel-to-reel recording which offered some helpful improvements. This expanded set also includes the following by Dr. Bahnsen: Four lecture sets: "A Reason for the Hope: Basic Training in Apologetics" "Another Cup of Coffee: An Introduction to the Apologetic of Cornelius Van Til" "What? Me Defend the Faith" "Application and Illustration of Method" (12 MP3 files in all) plus 12 articles and a 2-hour DVD lecture "Apologetics for Young People." Plus more!

This is a great debate as it illustrates the effectiveness of Cornelius Van Til's "Presuppositional Apologetic Method" perfected by Dr. Greg Bahnsen against the pseudo scholarly attempt of a trained naturalist to deny the existence of God. Bahnsen was superb ! He asserts in his opening remarks that the proof of God is the impossibility of the contrary. He asked Dr. Stein to remain consistent with his materialistic worldview while giving a meaningful explanation for the existence of abstract concepts such as universal laws of logic, uniform laws of nature, morality, mathematics, thought. This is demonstrably impossible and Dr. Stein tried valiantly to do battle by ignoring the challenge and focusing on issues he had used with some success in the past against other apologists not employing the presuppositional approach and not rooted in philosophy. Dr. Bahnsen stated he was unaware of the reasons why Dr. Stein left his field of expertise in natural science ,having written his doctoral dissertation on the ovarian maturation of Japanese quail, to enter an area he was unqualified to be in. Dr. Stein retorted he didn't see how Dr. Bahnsens dissertation, on self deception, was any more relevant to the subject under debate than his own. Dr. Bahnsen answered this statement expertly by presenting the case that those who denied God's existence were indeed practicing self deception. At the end of the day Dr. Bahnsen chided Dr. Stein for not yet entering into the debate by presenting a coherent logical arguement. I've listened to this debate many times and each time I walk away absolutely delighted with Dr. Bahnsens skill .
