Book Description

What's your Delaware sports IQ? That's the question Delawareans are asking each other with the publication of the book, THE GREAT DELAWARE SPORTS BOOK. THE GREAT DELAWARE SPORTS BOOK is the only book ever devoted the sporting heritage in the First State. Author Doug Gelbert digested the newspaper sports pages from every day for 125 years to bring the story of Delaware sports to life. The result is a 222-page journey through Delaware's sporting past - unlike anything that has ever been published in the state. All the teams, all the native professionals, all the Delaware Olympians. The easy-to-read format chronicles the Delaware sporting life decade-by-decade from 1870 on. Separate sections detail the history of auto racing, basketball, football, golf and horse racing. In baseball you will find comprehensive coverage of all 13 minor leagues featuring six Delaware towns. The fact-stuffed "Record Book" includes statisticalinformation for all Delaware major league baseball, basketball and football players plus the only listing of all Delaware high school champions ever compiled. Look over the more than 50 historical photos. I am an avid reader of sports literature and this is the one book that capitivated me from beginning to end. Never had I realized Delaware held such a treasure trove of minutia that impacted the sports world today. A must read for every sports fan.
