Good little book.,
By Matt (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Great Dialogues of Plato - The Republic - Apology - Crito - Phaedo - Ion - Meno - Symposium (Paperback)
This book is the older version of this book: Great Dialogues of Plato (Signet Classics). This older version is a little book, and that means that it takes a little bit of effort to hold the book open when the sentence gets close to the spine. (You know how it is with little books, how you have to pry them open to read all of the sentence.) But it is a good translation. Either this older version or the new one would be a good purchase. I would suggest that, in addition to this book, you also get another translation. If you have two different translations, you can go to your backup when you don't understand something in the text. It's really a great way to understand tough passages, and since old books are so cheap on Amazon, it's an easy thing to do.This book contains a short preface (about 2 pages). In the back of the book, they decided to stick in the Greek alphabet! It's pretty interesting that they did that. Also, there is a pronunciation index, although I couldn't understand it. It seemed muddled to me. Anyway, it's a good little book, but probably not a version that you would keep forever.
