Eye opener,
By Homsar (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
Unlike the other reviewer, I actually read the book and found it a real eye-opener for a long time athiest/evolutionist like myself. Now I am a "right-wing religious extremist" and proud of it. You just can't argue with the facts, I tried.

I have many of Ham's books. This one, just like the others, gives plausible answers to age old questions from a creationist perspective. Though no one knows exactly how it all happened in the beginning, Ham clearly shows that the creationist concept is not naive or unintelligent. This is a book that should be read with your kids. It will help them when they go to school.

For footnote readers,
By Joltin Joe "Joe D" (Springfield, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
If you like to read footnotes like I do, you'll be busy on this one. He has 106 pages of discussion on dinosaurs with 87 footnotes. The 87 footnotes take up 64 pages following the main text. Then there are another 9 pages of bibliographic references.
If you study science properly, you will appreciate both its great discoveries and its limitations. You will also understand the underlying philosophical question of epistemology (Just how do we know anything?). Science advances through debate, discussion and correction of previous theories. If you appreciate discussion and difference of opinion rather than just taking the current majority opinion on faith, you will find this book useful.

opposed to the evolutionist assumption that humans appeared on earth after two million years since Dinosaurs lived on earth, the author asserts that Dinosaurs and humans lived together. To prove his assertions he collected all the footprints of Dinosaurs on the fossils as well as the sculptures in the caves painted by the Indians and related indications. He concludes that both of them lived simultaneously on earth for a long while and that evolution did not arise at all in our world. In addition, the author insists that moral and ethics will be completely collapsed if the evolutionist theory permeates every area of our society.
We are sure his asserttions are true to fact. CW.

Filled with plenty of evidence,

I suggest you read this for yourself. If you are really searching for answers you will find them. If your hateful of other views
and dead set on believing evolution then don't write a review of this book and post it as others have. It's obvious many of the reviews written here about this book are full of hatred and animosity towards this view. We have different starting points. Some start with the view of millions of years and evolution is true. Other people start with the belief that God's word is true and there is a creator and the evidence for a global flood is ALL OVER THE PLACE! Look at the grand canyon, marine fossils on top of mountains and billions of dead things burried in rock layers LAID DOWON BY WATER all over the earth. Not to mention every people group on the planet has a flood story VERY SIMILAR to that of the bible. Cave drawings and dragon legends all over the world. The word DINOSAUR didn't exist till sometime in the 1800's so the only word they could use to describe these TERRIBLE LIZARDS was DRAGON. I suggest you read it and test it to find the trush for yourselves. It's a good read.

Ken Ham - the Stout Hearted Gladiator of Genesis,
By Bernard Michael O'Hanlon (Wilsons Prom, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
Iniquitous and somewhat downcast, I borrowed this tome from the local library but sadly I did not get a chance to read it properly - the kook-o-meter was going off in the background. Even so, I have immense respect for Professor Ham or whatever he calls himself nowadays. I can only dream that one day he will publish a book on the Holy Hand-Grenade of Antioch. Now we have all heard of those expeditions to Mt Ararat in Turkey. Those tight-lipped evangelicals must have bottomless pockets and inexhaustible faith but he who endures until the end shall be saved. Strangely indeed, for all their efforts the Ark has yet to be located. In my opinion, we need to recalibrate the search - after all, it was a world-wide flood. Here in Victoria, there is another Mt Ararat on the highway to Warragul (this is true). It is only a hundred meters high. Like Mt Everest, there is a Second Step to be surmounted (usually by walking up the other side of the hill). My friends, it is time to launch another expedition. There is a petrol station nearby where we can load up on supplies like grog and smokes. There are plenty of Tiger snakes in the vicinity - who knows, perhaps Satan himself will adopt such a guise to thwart our quest. With prayer, fasting and pious ejaculations, I am confident we can locate the holy artefact somewhere on this crag. Best of all, perhaps some poop will be found on board from our old friends Triceratops and T-Rex, thereby upholding the contention of this inimitable thesis. Erroneously, I thought that truth was mightier than mere fact but there you go. Praise the Lord and pass the coprolites.

Best Comedy I Ever Read,

This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
I gave this one star because the Author took this 100% seriously. I, on the other hand, don't take anything on this anti-evolutionary propaganda seriously. In fact, I read these books as comedy and I laughed myself silly page after page.
This book is only about 95 pages long; the other 95 pages are the appendix. You'd think with an appendix that long the book would have been a lot longer. I must quote another reviewer at this juncture: "I'm sure glad this non-historian wrote this book"... to teach me about history. I don't think I've read a book that has more flawed research in my entire life. The author even goes so far as to quote his previous book as proof to back up what he's saying in this one. Was he sitting there typing this up and saying to himself; "oh man, I was so right about this!" I mean really, what kind of a scholar logically would do this? If you're going to reference your own book, reference it in the main body, not in the appendix as if it's some hard fact discovery. It's not; it's your little pet theory. I should give Ham credit in one regard that this book does have facts that are dead on in terms of dinosaurs. And he does display some sound logic at parts, such as the average size of the animals on the ark. Even though that average works out to be about the size of a sheep, doesn't discount the fact that dinosaurs are huge and actually working out space is a problem. Although he did provide a plausible theory that they could have had baby dinosaurs on board instead of full grown. I actually agreed with that, if I were to support the dinosaurs on the ark theory in the first place. At least he had a plausible explanation if dinosaurs existed during Noah's time. I'm honestly not sure what's crazier, that this book was written, or that people actually take it as being fully correct. I looked up the part where Ham references the existing tissue in fossilized bone to support his theory. He says that this would be impossible. However, if you look up the person who discovered this you will find that she doesn't support the creationism theory. In fact, she's not a leading expert on dinosaurs, her field is genetics. So when you read these books and people say "scientists don't have a response to this" is because it's too soon in their research. And the scientist in question has said in an interview that she thinks this will help us learn more about the fossilization process, not prove that dinosaurs lived 6,000 years ago. Fossilization isn't an exact science and the variance of materials involved DOES matter. Unlike what Ham would want you to believe. The part that really killed me in his proof against evolutionary theory is that he says its possible dinosaurs may have evolved after they got off the ark. Genius! There's nothing like supporting a part of one theory to support your own. This book has endless quotable parts for humorous discussions! If you're looking to read an excellent "scientific" comedy, then this is surely the book for you. However, keep in mind the author thinks this is all totally real and is even funding his own "dinosaur park".

If you need something like this to affirm your faith...,
This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
It saddens me to see something so bombastic towards science. Science doesn't contradict the Lord's word, it is a wondrous compliment to it. It helps us to further explore and learn the inner workings of God's universe so we can better appreciate them. Why would God give us minds to reason and imagination to construct if He didn't want us to use them to further our understanding?

The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved,
By Rebekah Martin (MI,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved by Ken Ham shoots down many of the theories that evolutionists use to convince us that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. This book emphasizes the importance in believing the Bible is 100% true. Trying to make evolution and the Bible agree results in deciding the Bible is totally false.
I thought the many points made in this book were well thought out and accurate. Each idea was explained and in a way anyone could understand. I found this a very helpful book when faced with the onslaught of evolutionist ideas presented as truth.

nonsense dressed up as scientific debate,
By Chris McKitterick (Lawrence, KS USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (Paperback)
For people who believe that "intelligent design" and "young Earth" aren't just propogandic phrases used by religious extremists to push their anti-science, anti-evolution, and anti-intellectual agendas, this book might not be complete rubbish. But that is only preaching to the choir, not convincing anyone of anything, because the logic in this thing is just silly.
Worse yet, Ham dresses up his nonsense in scientific-sounding language in an attempt to trick school boards into adopting this thing in states where (shudder!) evolution cannot be taught unless teachers also preach Christian articles of faith. Science is "a method of learning about the physical universe by applying the principles of the scientific method, which includes making empirical observations, proposing hypotheses to explain those observations, and testing those hypotheses in valid and reliable ways; also refers to the organized body of knowledge that results from scientific study" (NOOA definiton). Evolution is not just a theory - anyone can observe evolution in dogs, mice, and so on. Faith is faith, and requires no proof. We do not and cannot disprove God's creation through science. Fear that we can is what drives the ignorant to write nonsense like this book. Why publishers print books like this confuses me. No rational person is going to be convinced that the Earth is a few thousand years old. No rational person is going to doubt the forces of evolution (though they may doubt the specifics, as many currently do). No rational person is going to believe that carbon-dating can be inaccurate by factors of many magnitudes. So what's the point? This is simple, Christian extremist propoganda, useful only for Sunday Schools where the teacher is afraid that science will disprove God, a silly notion. Books like this one give the reader a feeling that the author is desperately trying to deny reality as if trying to stay afloat in an ocean by using an antique life-preserver that has subsequently been filled with lead. It's absurd to keep holding onto that thing when it's only drowning you - and when actual floatation devices are nearby. Don't waste your time on this book. It's only marginally more funny than "The Great Dinosaur Mystery and the Bible," which is just embarrassing. |
