My 7 year old daughter read this book for the first time two weeks ago and instantly fell in love. She has since read it four times and still has not tired of it. It is jam packed with action to the end and the words are right on par with the second grade reading level. A ton of fun for all ages, especially those who have ever attempted to bathe an unwilling dog! Enjoy!

My children love the lively verse, creative rhyme, and playful illustrations. A great read-aloud book that my five-year-old also has fun reading to his little sister. Great for any dog-lover, too, as there are many recognizable breeds. I really appreciate that it depicts a diverse sampling of kids.

This is a wonderful book, for young and old alike. The limericks and illustrations pull you into the fun. Washing a dog of any size, big or small, will never seem like a "chore" again! "The Great Dog Wash" is a great book to be read aloud to non-readers and easy enough for newer readers to anticipate the next rhyming phrase with enough fun for everyone.

Instead of a car wash day, it's going to be even more fun when the children have a dog wash day. Watch out because everyone, including the dogs are on the run. Two girls grab the hose while one wide-eyed pup is firmly held by a boy who, of course, has his eyes shut. "Slippery, slobbery, do a good jobbery. Wash all that dog smell away." Pee yew! There are all kinds of different dogs that need washing. You can see a tall Afghan hound and a roly-poly beagle. Some are fancy purebreds while others . . . let's just say they are a little mixed up. There is a St. Bernard being scrubbed in a tub. Ooops, when he got up he decided to do a little shaking and a lot of water splashed in a little girl's eyes. WAAAAH!

Now the dog wash is in full swing and many people are lined up with their animals. Is that a cat at the end of the line? "Oh, gee! Look at that! Now, who brought a cat? Watch out! Be careful! Oh, no! Just what we need, a doggy stampede. And up the street all of them go." Soap suds are all around. The hose is on the ground and the little girl clasps her hands over her mouth. The poodle, the beagles, the dalmatian, a German shepherd and dogs galore try to catch that darn cat. Of course the kids will have a hard time rounding up those dogs. Is this going to be the end of their "Great Dog Wash Jamboree?"

This uproarious, madcap scramble of kids, dogs n' cat will delight young children everywhere, especially if they have a dog. The rhyming scheme was perfect and words like "slobbery" add a nice little twist to the already humourous story. The artwork is lively and vibrant and adds a lot to the adventure of the story. This is Shellie Braeuner's first book, the winner of the "Cheerios New Author Contest." If you or your youngster are dog lovers, this might be one you'll add to your list . . . forget the dog shampoo, the bucket and the hose!

I love this book. I bought it for my 5 year old granddaughter. It's a cute story with beautiful illustrations. I am a substitute teacher and spend a lot of time in kindergarten classes. This is a book my students would want to read over and over again!

This is a story of kids washing dogs together as a group--good teamwork. Then a cat comes along to disrupt it. The children follow and continue their dog washing. That didn't discourage and stop them.

The pictures in this book are great! Our 14 month old son loves pointing at all the colorful dogs and proclaiming "da, da, da". Someday he will get the "og" part of "dog", but for now he is very happy listening to the story line and trying to point out all the pictures in this book that he recognizes. To a toddler, I imagine this book is action packed and in high definition with surround sound. Big colorful pages. Pictures of lots of first words. Fun story line. Excellent.

I had originally gotten this book in a Cheerios box for free. My granddaughter loved for me to read it to her. We read it so much it was falling apart. I was thrilled when I saw it offered here on Amazon. It is a larger, hardcover version than what came in the Cheerios box and it is all in English, no spanish on the opposite pages. We've had the book for a year now and she still loves the doggies taking a bath.

This "book" was not at all what I expected from a review touting it on the radio. Firstly, it's more like a 5"x7" pamphlet, BUT what really made me mad was that each sentence in English had a Spanish translation. (It'd only be about 6 tiny pages if written in English only.)

I live in So. Calif. & we're suffering enough from TOO MUCH SPANISH wherever we go---the result of an illegal INVASION of our schools, hospitals, commerce, etc. I bought this for grandchildren who experience daily a loss of their AMERICAN CULTURE & they do not need to be exposed to more Spanish!!!

In its defense, the short story has a cute, rhyming tale...but I will NOT be giving it to my grandkids.
(P.S. A relative, who's fluent in Spanish, said it wasn't well-written.)
