From Library Journal
These three volumes supplement the original Great Events (Salem, 1992. 10 vols.), which covered 472 major international political, social, and economic events of the 20th century through 1991. The identical format provides a boxed "what, when, where, and who" breakdown followed by a 1000-word article describing the event's background, short-term consequences, and (sometimes) projected long-term impact. Eighty academicians provide clearly written synopses of 119 events suitable for background research from the high school through lower undergraduate levels. Controversial events, e.g. "Acquittals in the King Beating Trial Prompt Riots in Los Angeles," are treated impartially; complex issues, e.g., the Keating Securities Fraud, are clarified. A large black-and-white photo is included for each event. Four indexes?alphabetical key word, subject, geographical, and personages?plus a chronology are included in each volume. Libraries with the original set will want to add these supplements.?Stanley P. Hodge, Ball State Univ. Lib., Muncie, Ind.
