Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Narnia's third release for Nuclear Blast successfully blends the tight riffage of '80s American power metal with the breathy, keyboard-washed sounds of softer European outfits, and sprinkles some progressive metal shredding in for good measure. Fans of Dream Theater & Yngwie Malmsteen will enjoy! 2003.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quart-of-Larry, August 10, 2005
5 stars. Without question. Perhaps others have listened to this music and only think it's ok. I've listened to metal, though. I've listened to metal, and none of it has impressed me like this has! Whew! You got heavy metal. You got thrash metal. There's speed metal, and then there's what most people would call this: power metal. Maybe that's it. Maybe that's what you could call it, but I prefer to think of it as "epic metal". This music reaches a level that, upon listening to something else, almost puts other music to shame. Why? WHY aren't these guys getting the recognition they deserve over here in the States? Why won't they tour in the States? I could rant all day, but I'd rather describe my impression of the music on this album. Unlike some other types of metal I've heard, this album is like a hard-hitting, face-melting musical journey to something more profound and meaningful than what can simply be found on this earth...and I don't just say that because I'm a Christian reviewing a Christian band. In fact, I'm one of those folks who complains about most Christian bands not being original enough. This is NOT the case. These guys have the AWESOMEST guitar riffs I've heard since the 80's, and they don't hold back on melody, either. Mystical could be another word for it. It's what heavy metal would sound like if the band came from somewhere like Middle Earth, or Narnia (duh!).
Anyway, I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Lion Roars, June 7, 2003
Mix together the neoclassical guitar stylings of Yngwie Malmsteen, the classic 80's metal of Dio, the melodic hard rock of Joe Lynn Turner era Rainbow and the progressive metal of Dream Theater and one would get 'The Great Fall' by Narnia. Some might call this CD neoclassical metal, others power metal, I call it great music. Everything from the production to the songwriting to the vocals to the keyboards and the blazing guitar solos is excellent. The band has an incredible guitar player, however he does not let his amazing technical abilities over shadow the songs. From start to finish 'The Great Fall' is a great release. So far one of my favorite CD's to come out in 2003 along with Tourniquet's 'Where Moth And Rust Destroy'. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, January 12, 2004
By wishmaster (Colorado Springs, CO USA) - See all my reviews
I bought this cd because I suspected it was power metal and because of they're name. It took about two times of listening to the whole cd before it started to grow on me. The sound on the cd is quite good. The guitars, bass, drums and vocals are all good. This cd isn't really based on the Narnia books so if you buy this cd expecting it to be about Narina you'll be disappointed. They're other cds might be about Narina but I don't know I can't find any of they're cds. The best song on this cd is "The Great Fall of Man" it is quite a good song and it also talks about what a fallen world we live in.

5.0 out of 5 stars hey, who put classical in my power metal?
narnia sounds like a power metal band (e.g. iced earth, edguy, stratovarius, hammerfall, etc)experimenting with classical and singing Christian-based themes. Read more
