While this is a perfectly serviceable reading of THE GREAT GATSBY, it is not the great Academy Award winning Nelson Riddle adaption as suggested in the previous review.

If you wish to have the book on cd, this is your only option. The sound recording quality is fine and it is an unabridged version of the text. The reader achieves the sort of chilly undertone that I associate with the work; the detachment of the really rich from humanity.

The film soundtrack is an amazing landmark effort and we can only hope that it will soon be released on cd. Nelson Riddle's adaptions are sumptuously beautiful and very well chosen for the film. The opening, a bewitchingly orchestrated version of Irving Berlin's "What'll I do", is worth the price of the album alone and it moves from there through a treasure trove of great songs from the twenties. But DO NOT buy this cd expecting that soundtrack!

The score to the captivating story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, just like the book, is everything you expect and much more. I have always found music of the 20s absolutely beautiful, and this score contains just that. If I didn't know any better, I would think as if I were back in the 20s in East Egg with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. =) You won't be sorry. Buy it today, and it is sure to become among your favorite cds in your collection.
