Wonderful photographic journey through western ghost towns,
By
This review is from: Great Ghost Towns of the West (Hardcover)
I've always been fascinated by ghost towns, but I don't really have the ambition or the means to visit them, so this book was a great find for me. Be forewarned: this is not a guide for visiting ghost towns, nor is it a guide on photographing ghost towns. What this book does contain is wonderful photographs of western ghost towns with some accompanying background and history. So if you're like me, if you have an interest in ghost towns but can't see them in real life, this book is a great way to explore them without going there. Great photography and very interesting history make this a book worth having.

Nice pictures, but no techniques or recommendations,

This book is more like photo album, not an educational material for a photographer. No techniqie description, no explanation how to get to those towns, what is the best season, which equipment was used. A coffee table book.

NOT BAD, BUT ALSO NOT THAT GOOD,
This review is from: Great Ghost Towns of the West (Hardcover)
This best part of this book is the picutres. They are spectacular! But the problem is that there is almost no supporting information. The text pretty much consists of a generalized history or synopsis of a ghost town. If you want to see great pictures along with history of the towns, other pertinent informantion, directions or locations, then don't buy this book!! A ghost town book with most of the western states seems like a great idea, but the authors failed. Many great ghost towns are even left out. Why no Ruby, Arizona, Gold Point, Nevada or Silver Reef, Utah? I don't know. It is not even divided into chapters or sections by state or geographic region, just a mix of various pictures throughout the book (but magnificent pictures they are). My recommendation, this is probably not the book you want.

Fabulous Glimpse Into The Past,
By
This review is from: Great Ghost Towns of the West (Hardcover)
This book was well worth the money. The exquisite pictures and text give the reader a glimpse into the past and the strife that befell many of our forefathers. Ghost towns are still living and breathing towns...just not with the breath of humans. Their story still beckons to be told and the author and photographer have done the job of story telling very well.
