Product Description

People are drawn to the vibrant, tangy flavors found only in goat cheese. Great goat cheeses capture the essence of their native pastures and often exhibit fresh flavors such as of thyme, tarragon, rosemary, lemongrass and pine. Their ease of digestion, particularly for the lactose intolerant among us, is another reason for the popularity of goat cheese. For many however, goat cheese remains misunderstood. A persistent victim of "milk-prejudice," it is our goal to bring goat cheese to the masses.

Our Great Goat Cheese Assortment includes a selection of cheeses from four distinct countries:

• Ibores (Spain): This raw goat's milk cheese reflects its homeland with its full, simple flavor. It is hard and dense and becomes sharper with age. During its two-month aging period, the rustic cheese is rubbed with a mixture of olive oil and sweet paprika. (8 oz)
• Buche de Chevre (France): This wonderful goat's milk cheese from Poitou in the Loire Valley is aged for two months, during which time it develops a hard, edible crust complete with a bloomy white mold coating. It is sharp and tangy near the rind and gets progressively richer and creamier toward the center. (8 oz)
• Dorothea (Holland): A goat's milk gouda that is made with potato skins and basil oil. The potatoes lend the cheese a uniquely earthy flavor that complements the tang of the goat's milk beautifully. (8 oz)
• Goat Cheddar (USA): Sharp and smooth, this pasteurized cheddar is aged a minimum of one year, giving it a complex, nutty flavor, with a subtle undertone of classic goat's milk flavor. (8 oz)

I love goat cheeses and buy them on a regular basis. A lot of people seem unaware that there are many other types of goat cheese on the market other than the ultra fresh Chevre. I have purchased this selection by iGourmet for both myself and for others as gifts. The reactions from my friends have been mixed. They all enjoy the harder chesses, such as the Goat Cheddar and the Ibores. However, some people don't like fresh, soft goat chesses and one of the reasons that I send them this selection is so that they can try a variety of different chesses. However, in the selection that I was sent it contained two versions of Chevre-type cheeses including the delicious Buche de Chevre. Still, I wished they had more of the harder to find goat milk versions of cheeses traditionally made from cow's milk such as the goat's milk Cheddar and Gouda.

As for as price goes, this is a surprisingly good value. You are getting two pounds of very expensive chesses for a little more than I have paid for one pound of some of the varieties here. One of my friends did receive a substitution for one of the chesses. Instead of the cheddar they received the Cypress Grove's Midnight Moon. I can certainly understand why substitutions would be necessary and I felt that they replaced the listed cheese with an even better variety. Overall I am very pleased with both the price and the quality of the cheeses, I just wish that they had less fresh and more unique forms of this wonderful type of chesse.

Ordered this goat cheese and it is just fantastic! I can't digest cow milk so finding these goat cheeses was a great treat! I would order them again they are that delicious! Looks spectacular on a cheese platter with fruit and selected crackers.
