Goya was an amazing Enlightenment artist.,
By Greg "Saganite" (Brooklyn Park, Mongolia) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Great Goya Etchings: The Proverbs, The Tauromaquia and The Bulls of Bordeaux (Dover Fine Art, History of Art) (Paperback)
With pluck, wit, and a sense for the grotesque, Goya took on the fascists and theocons of Inquisition-era Spain in splended engravings that remind me of William Blake, if Blake were a ticked-off malcontent. There is nothing fancy about this book--the reproductions and paper quality are merely serviceable--but the artistry of Goya leaps off the page, and for me this is not the kind of artwork just to admire once through, but a series of images I go back to over and again, finding something new to smile about or nod at each time.
