4.0 out of 5 stars Harry and Emily's groundhog adventure, January 10, 2006
This review is from: Great Groundhogs! (Holiday House Reader) (School & Library Binding)
Entertaining kitty siblings Harry and Emily learn about groundhogs and Groundhog Day in this colorful chapter book. Discovering that groundhogs can tell whether or not Spring is coming, the duo searches high and low for one. Eventually they learn that groundhogs live in holes in the ground -- so they dig a few in the garden to attract one. They provide an enticing picnic lunch as well: one of grapes, cookies, and marshmallows. When only birds, chipmunks, and squirrels eat the food, the two are discouraged ... until they spy an actual groundhog eating flowers from a flower pot. They notice that he casts no shadow.

Harry and Emily are hardly Mr. Putter and Tabby, but they're enjoyable characters to follow. A humorous and educational beginning chapter book about Groundhog Day.
