a beautiful fable, February 8, 2008
This review is from: The Great Hiss (Hardcover)
A mean cobra terrorizes the villagers, who try desperately to appease him. One day, a powerful and loving teacher approaches the snake with enormous love and compassion, and soothes him with a gentle song. The snake heeds his advice to stop biting and hurting others, but then learns that others take advantage of his newfound kindness. When the teacher encounters the snake a year later, abused and battered from the villagers, the teacher shows him how to HISS in order to protect himself -- nonviolently.
The book I bought (not online) included for the same price a CD of the story, read by the author. I don't know if Amazon includes the CD with this book, but if so, it is a delightful reading of this gentle story. My 3yr old daughter is going to want to hear this one over, and over, and over.... and this is one I'll love to read to her every night.
