Book Description

October 2003
Martin C. Strong has chronicled the careers of those musicians who positioned themselves outside the mainstream of conventional "pop". From the Americans like Velvet Undergound and Captain Beefheart who offered something different to the flower power and peace of the 60s, through the filth and fury of punk, to the acid house culture that spawned the Happy Mondays and Primal Scream, and onto the ascension of American grunge and Nirvana.

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge and a little to much information, April 18, 2005
This review is from: The Great Indie Discography (Paperback)
I bought this book a few days ago because I felt I should learn a little bit about some bands that every one doesn't know about. When i got the book it has 1088 pages, way to big. This book covers bands from the 70's to 2001. Each band has its historys and all the records it put out and it also has rating for each record. This book does what it said it would, describe the bands and the records. While I personally dont care about some of the older bands I feel this book does a great job as a whole.
