I have to admit, I only purchased this CD because I went to high school with Brendan Lynch, SGD's guitarist, and having been a semi-pro musician myself, I like to support people who are serious about it. But I'm delighted that I discovered this music, and I intend to continue buying and supporting SGD's music in the future.

My first impression was that Ginny, the lead vocalist, has been listening to a lot of Belly - the influence is pretty obvious, and her lovely voice can be chilling at the same time it expresses great emotion and irony. The lyrics actually reminded me of Liz Phair, though not quite as blunt or brutal - there's a lot going on here, and I went back and listened to it a second time immediately to try to catch what I'd missed.

Add that to the fact that Brendan's guitar style recalls Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham's late 70s electric work, and throw in a Matthew Sweet-esque sensibility for loud-but-subtle keyboard orchestration, and you've got some work that really shines. The fast movers are probably my favorites, though the slower ones evoke a genuinely contemplative mood some bands never manage to capture.

All in all, I'm glad I stumbled upon this, and count myself among their fans. I hope this music gets the attention it deserves, and I look forward to the opportunity to see them perform live.

i have happylove by this band and it is amazingly poppy, infectious and lovely. i liked it so much i bought this. what a difference. this cd is much more mellow but the arangemants are a little more complex with more going on in the background. the harmonies are good too between vocals. no doubt this band is talented but i thought they were much better for me as a rock band. by that i mean, happy love is a much louder album and it just jolts you out of your skin.
this album is more subtle. there were more good songs than bad and even a handful of amazing tunes. the more upbeat songs hold stronger songwriting while the slower number tend to evoke a good mood.

BUY BUY BUY. Oh, not very helpful but I liked the CD.
