Most Helpful Customer Reviews

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful By Lynn Freedman on May 18, 2006
Format: Audio CD
This compilation of jazz music is eclectic, going from the complexity of Miles Davis to the easy sounds of Lou Rauls. The list of songs, 15 on each of four discs, tells you that. What impressed me was the quality of the music--no static, pops, or hisses, but an even good, not great, sound. There are some gems here, rarely found on other cds. You can't get much better than this for an overview of the many facets of jazz by the many original stars of jazz. I loved finding songs I had heard before, but had no idea who the musician was, or even the name of the song, such as "Christo Redentor" by Donald Byrd. Each disc is about an hour's length of time, so that's four hours of GREAT jazz! This boxed set is rare, and hard to find.

Disc #1: DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY/ Bobby McFerrin, ANGELINA/ Earl Klugh, ALLIGATOR BOOGALOO/ Lou Donaldson, MOVE/ Miles Davis, EARLY AUTUMN/ Woody Herman, EASY LISTENIN' BLUES/ Nat King Cole, STARS FELL ON ALABAMA/ Jack Teagarden, SQUEEZE ME/ Joe Sullivan, DAT DERE/ Art Blakely's Jazz Messengers, THE LATE, LATE SHOW/ Dakota Station, CHEROKEE/ Charlie Barnet, UNDECIDED/ Charlie Shavers, TWO O'CLOCK JUMP/ Harry James, SUMMERTIME/ Sidney Bechet, MARYLAND MY MARYLAND/ Bob Crosby's Bobcats.
