Rounder put out 2 greatest hits packages on Johnny, "The Great Johnny Adams Blues Album" and this one, while both are very fine, this release has so many incredible songs I think it is the best single volume Johnny Adams release.Strangely like so many Amazon glitches this album is not listed under the Johnny Adams records!? All the Rounder albums are very very good so one should own them all, but this is a great place to start. They called Johnny the Tan Canary, but he has so much horsepower behind these cuts there are no birds in sight. Scott Billington produced, with impeccable musicianship from many New Orleans greats suffice to say rhythm section on these tracks can school anyone.The tracks "You Don't Miss Your Water" and "Neither One of Us Wants to Be The First To Say Goodbye" are worth the admission alone. If you have never heard Johnny think of a modern Percy Mayfield, if you like southern soul this is it. One of the greatest soul performers and singers ever to live, his fame never travelled much beyond New Orleans, sadly. This is Essential Soul, & R&B-Turn it up!

I love this CD simply because my step-dad is the drummer on it and he recently passed away. Any recordings that he did will be in my collection
