4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable romantic suspense, November 1, 2009
This review is from: A Great Kisser (Paperback)
Six months ago her mother married Mayor Arlen Thompson of Cedar Springs, a Colorado resort town. Now Lauren Matthews leaves her job at Capitol Hill to meet her mom's spouse, her stepfather.

The mayor's personal assistant Ruby Jean demands (by crying) her brother Jake McKenna escort her boss' stepdaughter around town. Jake reluctantly agrees although he prefers fixing planes. However as they soar in love, someone is doing things to drive her out of town. Already disconcerted by her mother's sudden marriage, Lauren wonders who and why.

Mindful of Matthew Broderick's Out on a Limb, A GREAT KISSER is an enjoyable romantic suspense with the accent on the love subplot as the mystery never quite gels because the villain never quite seems felonious. Jake is fun as the reluctant hero while Lauren is the outsider causing trouble for townsfolk with her need to know why the mayor married her mom because she doubts his sincerity as a spouse or a politician. Fans preferring contemporary romances with a touch of suspense will enjoy Donna Kauffman's Rocky Mountain tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Kisser Indeed!, August 9, 2010

This book not only entailed a great love between a man and a woman but also entailed a great lovely relationship between a mother and a daughter. It is such a sweet love story with rich and entertaining dialogues and characters. I just loved that the hero was not scared of getting involved in a relationship or fall in love as it is in many romance novels.

This was my first novel from Ms Kauffman and it won't be my last.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Hearts from TRS!, April 26, 2010
By
This review is from: A Great Kisser (Kindle Edition)
The whole story flows nicely from the moment Lauren lands in Colorado. The pace gradually increases as the story moves forward to the somewhat unexpected conclusion. All of the mysterious and somewhat threatening events will keep readers guessing as Jake and Lauren, along with some help from Jake's sister Ruby Jean, try to figure out who is behind them. This story does a good job of showing just how well some secrets can be kept even in small towns.

Donna Kauffman has written a thoroughly enjoyable story filled with great characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a little mystery thrown in with some hot romance. - Karin

This was the first book of this author that I had read. I really enjoyed her writing. I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. The book took me places I didn't think it would go. Every time I thought I knew what would happen, the story went in a different direction. The characters were well thought out and I loved the interaction between Jake and Lauren.

1.0 out of 5 stars A lost cause!, January 8, 2010
This review is from: A Great Kisser (Paperback)
- I've heard a lot of good things about Kauffman's work and if it's true, it wasn't showcased in this title. I cannot remember a time when I was so utterly bored with a book as I as with A Great Kisser. The hero/heroine might as well have been strangers on a train for all the 'spark' there was between them. They spend a good portion of the beginning of the book in the car yapping yapping yapping yet they said nothing of consequence. In most cases the author has only a page or two to grab the reader's attention yet I was at least forty pages in and all I could do was yawn.

While Kauffman might be a good writer, technically - if she can't create some chemistry between the characters then the book is a lost cause. ~ Ana at ireadromancedotcom

1.0 out of 5 stars Expected more from Donna Kauffman, February 8, 2010

This review is from: A Great Kisser (Kindle Edition)
I have read other novels from Donna Kauffman and loved them (The Great Scot, Bad Boys In Kilts, Black Sheep and the Princess).

However, I found this book wearisome at best. The dialogue overpowered the book--literally took forever to get through. I would have preferred more narrator input. And the continual rehashing of the mother/daughter relationship was painful. It seems as though the author had to go over that relationship again and again and again to fill the pages--any (every) woman got it the first time!

I found the heroine to be annoying, whiny, and a bit stupid (why were you not at all worried when strangers were entering your hotel room and depositing/rearranging your belongings? And admitting to being oversexed? Hello?!?)

I very much liked the hero, but did not at all see what he did in Lauren Matthews. Or was it Mathews? So many misspellings, grammatical, and punctuation errors in this book I was distracted. Bottom line, I couldn't tell if this was a romance novel, or the author's first attempt at a mystery. Either way, poorly done.

--Disappointed in Colorado (P.S. Cedar Springs is not a real town in Colorado, but rather a rehab facility).
