This review is from: The Great Law and the Longhouse: A Political History of the Iroquois Confederacy (Civilization of the American Indian) (Hardcover)
Fenton is the reigning expert on the Iroquois and has published extensively on a multitude of subjects relating to them. This is his life's work and it is a tremendous achievement. Not a book to curl up to, nevertheless it is a must for anyone who professes interest in American history. Worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars An in-depth, scholarly viewpoint, January 22, 2011
The Great Law and the Longhouse: A Political History of the Iroquois Confederacy is for college-level Native American history holdings and packs in a political history key to understanding the Iroquois nation's organization. This represents a major survey of the history and culture of the Six nations from a premier dean of Iroquoian studies, using primary resources and expertise to provide an in-depth, scholarly viewpoint.
