In this ebook the authors clearly validate that the quality of leadership you experience at your workplace explains how you feel about the place you work and how engaged and effective you are. In clear, simple language they present their findings from data collected from nearly two million constituents from across the globe--what makes the difference in employee engagement is how leaders behave. They describe these behaviors that make a difference with stories and examples, with a compelling call to action to be a better leader at the end.
I'd recommend this ebook for anyone that wants to wants to be a great leader or anyone that develops leaders to create a great workplace.

Leaders do not do their best when they are maintaining the status quo or when they feel comfortable; they do their best when faced with adversity, crisis, setbacks, and great difficulty, according to James Kouzes and Barry Posner in this short-form ebook. Thus great leaders tend to come to the fore at challenging and difficult times, like the present.

The global financial crisis, structural change brought about by technology, and numerous other factors are creating great pressures on most workplaces, but good leaders can make a significant difference. According to the authors, the best leaders bring out significantly greater talent and efforts from their workforce. Leadership is a definable set of skills and abilities, which can be learned and improved.

The book goes on to describe five leadership practices: model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. By honing their skills in each of these areas, leaders can significantly improve the environment and productivity of their workplaces.

The research underlying the authors' conclusions is more along the lines of qualitative analysis rather than randomised controlled trials of a type likely to satisfy a statistician, but their arguments are on the whole persuasive. This very brief ebook includes a useful summary of ideas contained in The Leadership Challenge: How to Make Extraordinary Things Happen in Organizations, and should be useful to managers who have very limited reading time available.

Straightforward and research backed that makes a great statement...if you want to create great places to work, it starts, and probably ends, with your leadership. Leaders have incredible power over how followers perform, and we know that engaged followers who love their job and company, outperform others. Buy this.

This book was short and easy to read but lacked much depth. Ok for beginners but lightweight for anyone else.

Pound for pound this is one of the more useful leadership books I've read in a long time. If you don't want to spend the time to read Kouzes and Posner's other books, this short book is great.but you should invest the time to read their other books, they are phenomenal.

Kouzes and Posner always deliver...............insightful, easy to read work that provides practical application for the workplace, but as usual causes you to think about developing yourself as a leader. Always up to date and timely.
