Funny Brit,

This is an adult British cartoon book, meaning some of the humor is going to be quite off color. Of course you may have guessed that with the title. I gave it to my husband for father's day, and we both got some good chuckles out of it. As another reviewer said, it is very short.

"...her original programming will activate and she will kill all humans."
This caption runs underneath a picture of an elderly woman in a rocking chair reading, while a boy looks at her trepidatiously. If you find this sort of thing amusing, I suspect that like me, you'll very much enjoy this book. These comics are sort of like a British youngsters version of Dan Piraro's excellent "Bizarro." By making things deliberately topsy-turvy, Andy Riley gets us to think about the world in a different way. And that's a good thing. Also recommended: Bizarro and Other Strange Manifestations of the Art of Dan Piraro

It's Like Stealing Candy From a Baby,

This review is from: Great Lies to Tell Small Kids (Paperback)
Anyone who has ever been around small kids knows that sometimes, every once in a long while, you can absolutely not avoid telling them a lie. Or two. Or as many as is necessary to quiet them down and make them go along with whatever you had planned on doing at that particular moment. Sure, lying is not nice, and there is something particularly wrong about lying to innocent little kids, but by golly, it feels so good. Unfortunately, it's not always easy coming up with great lies that the kids would readily believe. This is where Andy Riley's "Great Lies to Tell Small Kids" comes in handy. It provides you with a great resource for those times when you quickly need to come up with a good lie. Some of the jokes in this collection are silly, some are the quintessential British dry humor, and a few are a bit off-color. I have to confess that I found this book to be really funny, even hilarious at times. Perhaps this is because this sort of humor really appeals to me, but I really think that Andy Riley has a great comedic gift. I think I'll go and check out a few more of his books.

Weird,

I found this book weird. Not my type of humour, but I appreciate the attempt. Things get weirder as I see reviews telling about the waste of money - are the days of opening books before buying gone?

I bought this book seeing it next to the Bunny Suicides books, so I knew what to expect, and I loved every page of it. Brilliant!

Great Lies for Sure,
By College Girl (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Great Lies to Tell Small Kids (Paperback)
This book is hilarious. The only downside is that it's a short read. I've read his other books, Bunny Suicides, and even though it's not as strong as the Bunny series, it's just as funny and along the same line of humor.

I got this for my husband who works with kids often, and he frequently teases and jokes with them using the cute stories in this book... it's a fun resource for sure!

This book (aside from being irreverent) provides a few smiles, but is quite short.

My grandfather and my dad used to tell me things like this. Maybe why I grew up to be a serial killer...
