Biography

El Camarón de la Isla (December 5,1950, San Fernando, Cádiz, Spain – July 2, 1992, Badalona, Spain) was the stage name of flamenco gypsy singer José Monje Cruz who is sometimes also credited as José Monge Cruz.

His uncle José nicknamed him Camarón (Spanish for "Shrimp") because he was blonde and fair skinned. At the age of eight he began to sing at inns and bus stops with Rancapino to earn money.… Read more in Amazon's Camarón de la Isla Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent anthology, May 3, 2009
This review is from: Great Masters of Flamenco, Vol. 15 (Audio CD)
Not only was Camarón certainly the greatest flamenco singer of the last fifty years, his accompanists were two of the greatest guitarists -- Paco de Lucía and Tomatito.

This is probably the best single-disc anthology of his career, and includes:

2 tracks from Cada vez que nos miramos (1970)
3 tracks from Son tus ojos dos estrellas (1971)
5 tracks from Caminito de Totana (1973)
2 tracks from Arte y Majestad (1975)
2 tracks from Rosa María (1976)
3 tracks from La leyenda del tiempo (1979)
2 tracks from Como el agua (1981)

The total time is 69'44".
