4.0 out of 5 stars Haunting melodies, October 25, 2001

This review is from: Great Movie Themes In Dolby Surround: Westerns! (Audio CD)
The big seeping scores "Big Country" "Magnificent Seven" etc. are
handled better by Eric Kunzel/Cincinatti Pops "Round-Up".

But the subtler melodic pieces in this CD are what makes this CD great. You do not find them in Kunzels CD.

All in all is a wonderfull collection of Westerns scores filled with haunting melodies.

5.0 out of 5 stars "immigrants, pioneers and THE AMERICAN WEST set the stage", November 30, 2001
This review is from: Great Movie Themes In Dolby Surround: Westerns! (Audio CD)
Opening track takes us down the trail "THE BIG COUNTRY"(Jerome Moross), a favorite of many collectors..."ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST"(Ennio Morricone), a very successful "Spaghetti Western", that made Charles Bronson a star, and showed us Henry Fonda could play a villain, very convincingly..."HOW THE WEST WAS WON"(Alfred Newman), outstanding score and all-star cast, how could this miss..."DANCES WITH WOLVES"(John Barry), my favorite composer completely captures the west, with the American Indian showing us how much heart they have, and still have...my highlight pick is "THE MAGNIFICIENT SEVEN"(Elmer Bernstein), gunfighters helping mexician villagers fight off local bandits, everytime I hear this score makes me wish I was one of the gunfighters, trying to save the day.

This compilation is superbly arranged with The City Of Prague Philharmonic, conducted by Nic Raine, Paul Bateman and Derek Wadsworth all riding white horses...leading our posse is producer James Fitzpatrick doing some hard riding, the curtain opens and the overture begins, those thrilling days of yester-year are here once again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie Themes In Dolby Surround: Westerns!, March 26, 2009
This review is from: Great Movie Themes In Dolby Surround: Westerns! (Audio CD)
If these aren't the originals, they sure could have fooled me. Add to that you have several well known movie scores in this collection of themes. The big orchestra sounds in these sound just like the original music from the movies. Every instrument is right on que as in the movies. If you have a fan of Westerns, I don't think you will go wrong getting them this CD. Great quality with plenty of replayability. My only hope is they will re-release this CD.
