I can easily cut a pine 4x4 in about 15 seconds with this if I really go at it. Chip removal works well on anything you can get good push and pull on. The teeth make it slightly aggravating at times to start on soft wood, but once it dose the work is vary quick and acceptably smooth. The metal seems to be of a good hardness and temper. Before I lost my first one I use it for about a year (light-moderate use) and the teeth showed now signs of dulling that you could tell while cutting (finger nail test faild but still cut just fine :p). The finger nail test BTW is if it scratches your finger nail with little to no effort, the sharpness is perfect for cutting wood.

If you know you're going to be using one on a regular bases, I'd check out Stanley's version.
Stanley 20-045 15-Inch Fat Max Hand Saw
It's seems to be about the same thing (I took a good look at it in Lowes), but the teeth look a bit more spaced out and the teeth have been hardened for longevity with pro use.
