Deutsche Grammophon's GREAT PANORAMA OF CLASSICAL MUSIC was a double-disc sampler issued in 2000 to promote their then-brand new series of 50 twin-CD sets. Some random titles:

MUSIC FROM THE MOVIES
DANCES OF THE RENAISSANCE
FESTIVE BAROQUE

The majority are single composer albums of symphonies, opera highlights and what are often called "everyman classics."

A heavy-paper open-ended slipcover protects the jewel case. Included are an eight-panel contents flyer and a glossy 28-page catalog with all 50 CDs superimposed on strikingly artistic photos. ADD and DDD tracks span the years 1959-89.

As is to be expected from a superior label, sound quality and performances are positively top shelf. Here's the ideal way to become familiar with a most ambitious and diverse body of finely produced music. This collection gets my highest recommendation!

Not only is this work an excellent compilation of the most beloved classical works, it's done beautifully. Ideal not only for classical "newbies", children, as well as those who wish to hear a lot of great "oldies" on only 2 discs.

My favorite work on the CD is: The Great Gate of Kiev!! A great "ride to work" song.

One of the most impressive CD's that I've ever purchased - a great introduction to the classics - the performers and the music. I always enjoy Vivaldi, DeBussy, Strauss and of course, Gershwin. Music such as the Four Seasons, Carmen, various piano and violin concertos, and the Flight of the Bumblebees are just a few of my favorites. This CD goes great with a sip of brandy and a warm fireplace. Lower the volume a bit and enjoy a stimulating conversation with friends. Buy it...
