Book Description

Shady pasts and family secrets threaten to undo love on the Great Plains. Can a headstrong, heart-tied farmer’s daughter turn a hated arrangement into a dream come true? Will a female photographer capture a picture-perfect romance with a Dodge City deputy?

From the Back Cover

A Love as Vast as the Plains and Prairies That Surround It

The Great Plains bring love to two women in a collection of historical romances.

A Bride’s Portrait of Dodge City, Kansas

by Erica Vetsch

Adeline Reid, once the sweetheart of a notorious train robber, is determined to keep her shady past a secret. Her newfound focus has gained her two things—a successful portrait studio and a life free of romance. But when Deputy Miles Carr’s inquiries into a local shopkeeper’s murder lead to her door her life and heart are threatened with exposure.

A Bride’s Sweet Surprise in Sauers, Indiana

by Ramona Cecil

As a young American woman, Regina Seitz should be able to choose her own husband, just like her sisters did. But Regina’s papa insists she marry Diedrich Rothhaus—just so he can have a German son-in-law to inherit the family homestead. Regina is prepared to do whatever she can to make her intended dislike her. . .until one look at handsome Diedrich leaves her heart beguiled and her resolve shaken.

Great Plains Brides

This is a compilation book with two complete novels--not three or four novellas. These novels are full-length with complete plot development and the book is well worth its price.

A Bride's Portrait of Dodge City, Kansas, by Ramona Cecil, is a well-written book detailing Addie's desire to keep her uncle's portrait studio going in light of the fact that the banker wants to foreclose on the loan her uncle took out to open the studio. She works hard at being the best, including taking a picture of a cowboy with his horse in her studio.

When Vin Rutter shows up in town wanting the money Addie's former fiance had stolen, Addie has no clue where it is, but Vin doesn't believe her. In the meantime Deputy Miles Carr also has connections to the past she wants to keep hidden, and Vin crosses paths with Miles as well. Miles wants an excuse to arrest Vin because he knows Vin has broken the law but for some reason charges have never stuck. Miles, in his role as deputy, is asked to escort Addie to her boarding house when she works late in her studio and during the escorting duties comes to fall in love with her. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome the path to true love, including murder, vandalism, and a missing picture.

A Bride's Sweet Surprise in Sauers, Indiana, by Erica Vetsch, is the sweet story of Regina and Deidrich and how an arranged marriage becomes a marriage of love. Regina's father has sent money to Venne, Germany, to bring Deidrich and his father to the United States, so that Deidrich can marry Regina and inherit her father's farm. Neither wants the marriage and convince their fathers to wait until the debt for their passage is paid off.

This book is actually two older books packed together and republished. I think it's a little misleading because I expected two new stories and found that I have read one of the two. The first book with in this book is called A Bride's Portrait of Dodge City, Kansas by Erica Vetsch. It was originally published in 2011. You can read my review of this book HERE(can't post link on Amazon).

The 2nd book is called A Bride's Sweet Surprise in Sauers, Indiana by Ramona K. Cevil. It was originally published in 2012. Regina is the youngest daughter of a German farmer. Her older sisters married for love but her father wants the farm to go to another German so he finds her a husband who is. He is the son of a friend from the old country. Neither Regina or Diedrich(her intended) want to get married and once they realize they both feel the same way they hatch a plan to change their parents minds. Yet as they get to know each other they both start to question why they don't want to marry after all. Then a family secret emerges that threatens to rip both family's apart.

What I liked: The story was fun. I have read other arranged marriage books but this one was a little different and I liked it. It was not all sunshine and roses but I really liked how the characters interacted with each other. They were very likeable.

What I did not like: Regina's oldest sister comes back to live with her family for a while and there is a side story with this and I really did not like it. The book could have easily been fine without it and the way it ended that part of the story was kind of fast and did not feel like it fit.

Overall this was a good book and quite enjoyable. The first story which I read back in 2011 was also good so overall this is a great book to pick up and you get two great stories in one. My only complaint is I did not realize the stories were just reprinted books bound together and not first run stories.
