Book Description

California Series in Urban Development March 22, 1982
In this "pathology of planning," Peter Hall briskly recounts the histories of five great planning disasters and two near-disasters and analyzes the decisions of the professional bureaucrats, community activists, and politicians involved in the planning process. He draws on an eclectic body of theory from political science, economics, ethics, and long-range future forecasting to suggest ways to forestall such grand mistakes in the future. For this edition, Hall has added a special introduction in which he reflects further on the sequels to these cautionary tales and on the moral planners and citizens should draw from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book providing valuable lessons on planning & forecast, June 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Great Planning Disasters: With a new introduction. (California Series in Urban Development) (Paperback)
It is a great book. It tells the stories of planning projects that turn out to be dissaters. It clearly identifies the two main reasons for planning disasters: overestimation of demand and underestimation of cost. It provides both practical and theoretical background on those projects. Must be in your libarary. K. Mert CUBUKCU PhD Candidate The Ohio State University City & Regional Planning Department

It is a great book. It tells the stories of several planning projects that turn out to be dissaters.
