A Book To Help..., April 28, 2009
Imagine losing your job, having 3 children to raise, the bill collectors at your door, and finally losing your home. How do you cope? The book, The 7 Great Prayers , was written as a result of coping with just that situation. Paul & Tracey McManus experienced the disappointment, the fear, and the worry of dealing with a financial crisis when Paul lost his job. How did they cope? As the authors wrote, "It was better to focus on the good and what we had than to focus on what we had lost and were losing." By doing this, the book was written.
The 7 Great Prayers are ones that are simple yet powerful. The book also offers positive affirmations that you can use no matter what your situation. Paul & Tracey offer their own experience and provide insight into how they survived as a family while watching all they had worked for being taken away. As the authors wrote, "We're not preachers; we're just regular people."
We all experience challenging and difficult times in our lives. This book, The 7 Great Prayers, is one that provides suggestions to help you get through those times. It will focus your thoughts and provide inspiration. I would recommend the book not only to anyone going through difficult times, but for everyone

I can think of an 8th..., April 7, 2009
But these 7 pretty much capture a cool route to energizing your faith (or maybe finding it again) when the world is tumbling down or really really troubling. Good things here for kids and young people too. I can guess some folks will say this is too simple but I like their idea that connecting with God is easy, simple natural. Appealing heart-felt book.

Solace and Support for Life's Challenges, June 1, 2009
Every day I counsel people who are living with cancerin my position with Cancer Recovery Foundation (www.cancerrecovery.org). Their stories are heart-wrenching, their circumstances are devastating, their lives are turned upside down. I should know. My wife learned that she had cancer in 2004. We understand the harsh aftermath.
The fact is too many live in desperate fragility as they undergo treatment and live with a dread of cancer for the rest of their lives. Even when people are in remission or have been told they are "cured", in the backs of so many of their minds is the fear that cancer could return.
What I have learned and relearned is that when you stand on the threshold between life and death, as so many people living with cancer do, you need a source of power far greater than your own. For so many, prayer is that power. Prayer helps us to gain a different perspective. It enables us to connect beyond ourselves and our immediate concerns. It works to begin to ease our minds and it calms our hearts. Prayer is a source of strength and a gift of peace.
The 7 Great Prayers helps us to understand the power of prayer is a greater and deeper way. It helps the reader to focus on its affects and its meaning. For those living with cancer this book provides a way to create a new state of mind in the midst of terror, a state of calm, reassurance and hope. But I also know that The 7 Great Prayers will help anyone, whether living with a life-threatening disease or not, to find solace and support for all of life's challenges and cares.
