5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Voice, April 18, 2005
This review is from: The Great Pretender (Audio CD)
Dolly Parton has always had an amazing voice and this time she tackles some "golden oldies" and gives them her own special touch. You've probably heard all of these songs before, but DOlly's voice makes them brand new. If you like covers of songs or you're a fan of Dolly Parton, I recommend this album highly.

Track listing:

1) Save The Last Dance For Me

2) I Walk The Line

3) Turn, Turn, Turn (To Everything There Is A Season)

4) Downtown

5) We Had It All

6) She Don't Love You (Like I Love You)

7) We'll Sing In The Sunshine

8) I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)

9) Elusive Butterfly of Love

10) The Great Pretender

Although Dolly Parton is largely known for writing and recording songs she has composed herself, she is also known for doing wonderful versions of other's songs. In "The Great Pretender", which was her first covers album, Dolly performs numbers that were famous back in the 1950's and 1960's. Songs covered include "Turn, Turn, Turn", "Downtown", "The Great Pretender", "I Walk The Line", "We'll Sing in the Sunshine", and more. Miss Parton's version of "Save The Last Dance For Me" was a huge country single going all the way to #3. The sound is very much early eighties, but the voice is pure Dolly as she has never sounded better. Most have pretty much forgotten about "The Great Pretender" as it has never been rereleased on CD since its original debut in 1984 despite public demand for it. The album marks one of the rare occasions that a Dolly album did not contain an original Parton composition. "The Great Pretender" went to #7 country and #73 pop.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album, October 6, 2008
I love this album. I listened to it over and over when I was a kid, but no longer owned a copy. It is so great to listen to it again. Dolly's music is timeless.
