Marketed as "a collection of man's best thinking," The Great Quotations is an unique resource for the author, scholar, or thoughtful reader. American author and journalist George Seldes (1890-1995) carefully selected aphorisms and commentary from a wide range of sources, ancient to modern. This is not a compilation of familiar quips typically found in other quotation books. Instead, the reader will find many unfamiliar but insightful quotations from important authors, artists, philosophers, political and military leaders, dictators and criminals, inventors, scientists, industrialists, and humorists. Most quoted material is in the form of a paragraph-length passage which conveys each author's ideas in proper context. The Great Quotations is an "encyclopedia of ideas" that can be consulted as a reference or simply read for pleasure and enlightenment.
