Most Thomas fans know the story of the race between Thomas and Bertie. This book simplifies the story and has easy to read large print. My young Thomas fan pulls this book off the shelf first every day. If your child likes Thomas he'll want to learn to read this book.

Thomas and the other trains are very excited today because children are arriving
for a school trip! However, Thomas has work to do on his branch line.

He hurries through his tasks so he'll be able to transport the children, but then encounters a series of delays-including a broken down Bertie the Bus. What will Thomas do? How will the children arrive safely?

Thomas and the School Trip (also called The Great Race) is a Step 1 Book (Step Into Reading) geared to children in Preschool to Grade 1. The script is quite large, and the language is simplistic to help beginner readers.

Unlike many Thomas the Tank Engine stories, especially the ones geared to older children, there is no taunting or rudeness among the engines. Everyone cooperates and helps each other.

I purchased this book to help my 5 yr old grandson practice his reading skills. He is a great Thomas fan and knows this story from the video. This increased his interest in helping me read the story to him and his 3 yr old sister, also a Thomas fan. I intend to purchase more of these books as I love reading with my grandchildren.

My 5 1/2 year old enjoys this book because he loves Thomas and can recognize most of the words. His younger brother (3 1/2) enjoys listening, as well.

This is a kids book, to be handled by little kids. But the paper pages are too thin and rips way too easily. After a few readings with my 3 year old, had to tape most of the pages. Cheap construction, low quality print job. (story is not that interesting, but hey, its Thomas, none of them have riveting plot lines)

My daughter really enjoys this book. We have several Thomas books and this has been a 'fan-favorite' in our house for quite some time. It seems with all of these types of books though that after extended reading, the pages begin falling out. Almost all of our Step Into Reading books have had to be be taped to prevent us from losing pages. That fact aside, it's a nice book with an easy to read and follow story. Well worth it for a Thomas and/or Bertie fan.

My son loves this book and it's easy to teach him his words, he's 4.

The book has a great layout. The writing is consice and printed in large fonts, perfect for early readers. My 3-year old son loves it. Sometimes I read it for him and some other times he just likes to flick through the pages.

My 21/2 year old loves Thomas and Friends. He likes this book but the story is too short as he has gotten used to reading a lot more complex books. The book is not bad, it is just very simple. It may be better for a one year old child.
