Know thyself and you shall know the universe and its Gods!,
By
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
The Great Rebellion is that action when successfully lived, produces something beyond good and evil. The Great Rebellion occurs when a person who, with infinite yearning for Truth, breaks the shackles of degenerate social norms and finds authentic individuality. The Great Rebellion is Buddhist Annihilation at its very depth. Jesus stated it himself, "deny yourself..." This is a book so profound that rarely (if ever) can one find all the levels of meaning. Entire paragraphs of information are written in a single sentence. Entire chapters are written in entirely one sentence paragraphs. Do not be fooled with the number of pages, this book's synthesis is so comprehensive that it can often be misunderstood. Any aspirant of knowledge will read this book with awe. Unconditionally recommended to those looking for something but do not yet know what.

How to liberate the consciousness,
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
This book puts into perspective the psychological work that is required in order to achieve true happiness. This is only possible through the liberation of the consciousness. The spiritual science behind the process is explained briefly, but the bulk of this book is analysis of the human condition and practical psychological advice.

I come not to bring peace unto the Earth...!,
By stevenhorr (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
I must follow suit and award this book with 5 stars. For what it is (a summary), this book is without rival. It is short, but no less life-shattering because of it, and it is beautifully written. I would so love to lend it to some of my Christian friends, those of the Intermediate Mind, the place where belief, sometimes fanatical, substitutes for Faith, the kind of Faith of the true gnostic.I am no better. I am divided "I"s, a puppet of the subterranean beasts of a fragmented self. This book is a scary one, just as many of Christ's proclamations are truly terrible when not white-washed. It's a long way along the razors edge, God help us all, but facing the darkness must be the beginning. No matter where my reading and exploring take me, I am most forcibly struck by the same teachings. We must be lamps unto ourselves. We must forfiet our lives to gain life. First, as outlined here by Samael, we must shine light into our darkest recesses and see that we are projecting the denied parts of ourselves out into the world and onto others. And we cannot simply sever these unsavory parts of ourselves with the knife of intellectual analysis. They must be given up to the purifying Fire of the Red Christ, and this can only be done when we truly come to know and accept these things. I'm unclear on some of Samael's symbolism, especially in regards to the Kundalini and the Holy Grail. Many readers will likely decipher what I did not, so don't be detered. I shan't reiterate more of the book here. Read it! Acknowledge your own stumbling in darkness, have hope, and be grateful that others have lit the way to rebirth, namely Jesus of Galilee.

Rebellion for Liberation,
By
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
The Great Rebellion is the perfect introduction into Gnosis: direct experential knowledge of the Mysteries of Life and Death. It is simple, practical, and absolutely point-blank. Nothing escapes the author. It's so honest that it's cruel, and so cruel that we don't want to believe it, because it reveals the truth of all our inner misery. However, in order to escape prison, one must first realize that we are in a cell; and that cell is our own minds. Truly, we are the only ones responsible for our own lives, yet we blame others, and even hate others. This is the sad truth of our psychological incarceration. The point of the Great Rebellion is to free ourselves from ourselves, from all our hidden prejudices and beliefs, and all the hidden causes of our sufferings in order to experience THAT which is the Truth, THAT which is beyond the body, the feelings, and the Mind. This is the Conciousness, and this book is for the Revolution of the Conciousness. However, it's necessary for people to understand that we are asleep --- psychologically speaking. Psyche is Greek for Soul, so true Psychology, Gnostic Psychology, is the study and awakening of the Soul. To awaken is to stop dreaming, to stop living in delusions. To awaken the Conciousness is to realize that the "I", Myself is an illusion, that we were living in illusions, and that there is a solution, a way out of psychological suffering. However, we really need to understand that we are asleep. This is the book that will help get you started.

Prepare to Be Changed,
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
This work, like most of the writings of Samael Aun Weor, will change you. The way he takes the reader on a tour of our modern life leaves one facing the overwhelming situation humanity is now suffering within. Truly, your heart will be shaken, and your mind will revolt, as you are exposed to the many contradictions and sad realities inside of ourselves. For the Gnostic student, this work becomes one of a small handful that is referred to on a daily basis, as it provides the essential instructions one needs in order to institute a practical and effective means to revolutionize one's own psyche. For this is the only way for us to deal with the chaos and confusion of our times: work on ourselves, in order to improve humanity in turn. "Society is an extension of the individual. If the individual changes, society changes."

The Philosophy of Freedom,
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
This was the first book I ever read by Samael Aun Weor and it had and still has a profound impact on me. It's one of those books that has a lasting impression on one's consciousness as it deals with the solutions of the many problems of man.Samael Aun Weor blatently and openly tells-it-as-it-is with no-holds-barred in order to show the crude reality of the facts so that we can see and comprehend the situation we find ourselves in. The perfect compliment to his other great work "A Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology". Both are necessary in the understanding of the how, the what and the why of inner change. "The Great Rebellion" is like the treasure one finds when searching on a desert island for lost gold...it is like a secret door that appears when one is trapped in a dead-end alley with no way out... ...it is the answer to all the pleas that have been cast out by everyone and anyone who has ever suffered and prayed for help.

Great New Edition,
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from Suffering (Timeless Gnostic Wisdom) (Perfect Paperback)
This is one of my favorite books of all time. It is clear, compassionate and direct. Very practical and deep.I own the first edition of this book and this new print by Thelema Press. The new one is much nicer and feels better. It has a nice flap on the back that folds out for study while you read. Overall this book is a great comfort to have in hand.

A good start to understanding some of the problems within and without,
By OasisD (Eugene, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from the Ego (Paperback)
I read this book a few months ago and it offered a brief summary of what is involved to overcome your own internal struggles. It is stated that the chaotic and devolving world we live in is merely a reflection of our convoluted psychological reality. Think about the chatter in your mind as you live the day, your opposing desires, and contradictions. Also remember that night-mirrors come from your own mind and thus are a part of your psychological existence! Our world is home to many night-mirrors and atrocities day by day. By truly improving and reflecting our inner beauty outward, we can help all that we touch and make the worthwhile effort to mend our place of living. Bottom line about The Great Rebellion... I was inspired by the author's words and hope that I can succeed in the practices given.

Practical, Informative, Inspiring,
By
This review is from: The Great Rebellion: Gnostic Psychology and the Path to Liberation from Suffering (Timeless Gnostic Wisdom) (Perfect Paperback)
This simple yet provocative work is a profound analysis of the spiritual and moral decadence of our times. While presenting the difficult and oftentimes morbid issues we face as a humanity, this work is elegant in its precision and inspiring in its call to action on an individual and social level. This is one of my favorite works by the author due to its poetic nature; it dives into the marrow of our deepest economic, social, and moral problems and addresses them with a voice of compassion that is both tender and fierce.Although it is a smaller work considering Samael Aun Weor's repertoire, it is one of the most accessible and inspiring due to the way the author cuts to the chase and challenges the reader to challenge him or herself. It provides the fundamentals of esoteric psychology and essentials of Gnostic Christianity, which is the esoteric significance of the Christ. He emphasizes in the latter half of the work the need to incarnate this impersonal, universal and divine force or intelligence, which religions have called Christ, Khrestos, Chenrezig, Allah, Avalokiteshvara, Kuan-Yin, Quetzalcoatl, and many other names. This is in order to accelerate our own process of spiritual development and change, the sole purpose of which is to overcome our suffering as well as the suffering of others. This is a book that both new and older students come back to; written near the end of Samael Aun Weor's lifetime, it synthesizes the entire breadth and span of his seventy or so books. It stands alone in its poignancy of both subject and style; this is a great introduction and a great guide for experienced students to deepen spiritual practice. However, as with most of Samael Aun Weor's works, it is confrontational, which for many can be a turn-off, but for the very same reason can be food for the soul. This work is inspiring for those who are tired of suffering and want to change, not for the complacent, the stubborn and the proud. If you are sick of searching through so many spiritual and occult books without finding solace, give this work a try. It is lucid, simple and profound. This is an excellent new edition by Glorian Publishing, including better printing, illustrations and binding.

Totally turns our concepts around.,

This review is from: The Great Rebellion: The State of Our World and How to Change It (Paperback)
This book is one of Samael Aun Weor's books that has had a big impact on my spiritual path. Here Samael Aun Weor gives us a firm shake up, a very aggressive wake up call to awaken us from our deep sleep. In a very sincere and direct manner he lets us see how we are mistaken about our concepts of things. This book deals mostly with the state of our world but moreover, with the state in which we find ourselves in. From meditating on this work, it is very clear to me that the concepts that we have about everything from ourselves, our world, our lives, our fellowmen, etc is really the result of a sleeping conciousness. A sleeping conciousness cannot see things as they truly are but only dreams. What we experience on the outside tells us alot about what's going on inside of us, that is, inside our psyche. This knowledge can motivate us to change ourselves and therefore change our world which in turn will elevate us to higher levels of conciousness. Samael Aun Weor has done a magnificent job in speaking to the conciousness as he does here and in all his works because sometimes we need a firm wake up call and we need to be spoken strongly and directly to finally comprehend. This book is a good choice to begin the studies given by Samael Aun Weor specially as it concerns the awakening of the conciousness.
