An excellent video showcasing famous and upcoming singers,

This excellent video showcases rare video performances by American, British and European singers whose careers range from those in their twilight (Marian Anderson), during their professional peak (Irmgard Seefried, Sir Peter Pears, Lisa Della Casa, Maureen Forrester and George London) and those in their ascendency (Marilyn Horne). The vocal literature include spirituals, art song, opera arias and a duet. The frequently close-up filming provides insight into vocal techniques, radiant artistry and glimpses of these outstanding artists at various points in their singing careers. CBC is to be commended for releasing this gem from their film archives. If only they would release more of these invaluable teaching tools! Unfortunately, the artists are not equally represented. Additional songs or arias by Irmgard Seefried would balance the single Lied included, a sparkling performance of Die Forelle, partnered by Erik Werba.
