THE GREAT SIOUX UPRISING, June 23, 2011
This review is from: The Great Sioux Uprising (VHS Tape)
This movie was first released in 1953(1981), in technicolour and full screen and runs 81 minutes. The sound and picture quality is very good. The movie starts with Stephen Cook (LYLE BETTGER) bringing in a lot of horses for the Army. Next, more horses come into the Fort brought by Joan Britton (FAITH DOMERGUE) and the Major of the Army is pleased. He is also happy that Joan did not come across any hostile Soiux. At lunch with Joan and Stephen, the Major says he needs more horses to defeat the Confederate Army. Joan thinks she could get more horses from the Sioux. Joan goes to meet Red Cloud (JOHN WAR EAGLE). Stephen follows and sees many horses near the Sioux Village. Red Cloud refuses to sell his secret horses. Stephen brings in his gang and tries to steal these horses. Red Cloud takes his braves and attacks, but Stephen escapes with the horses. Captain Dr Jonathan Westgate (JEFF CHANDLER) rides into the Sioux village and saves Red Cloud's horse. In return Red Cloud gives Jonathan a new horse, and Jonathan promises to look out for the horse thieves. When Jonathan arrives in 'Jaramine Junction', he meets Joan who wants him to look at one of her horses. Back in town, Jonathan takes an arrowhead out of Stephen's horses. When Jonathan agrees to speak for all horse traders, he is kidnapped by Stephen. Also Jonathan's surgical knife is found near Joe Baird's( WALTER SANDE) body. As Jonathan turns up at the town, the traders want to hang him for Baird's murder.
How will it end? Will Jonathan escape from Stephen? Will Stephen get all of Sioux's horses? What will the Sioux do? Will the traders find out the truth of Jonathan's surgical knife? What will Jonathan do to clear his name? Will the Army intervene?
This story of ROBERT BREN and GLADYS ATWATER is beautifully photographed by MAURY GERTSMAN and well directed by LLOYD BACON.
