Solid book; has a few hard-to-find folk songs, July 3, 2002

This review is from: Great Song Book (Hardcover)
This song book has some good children's and folk songs. Most of the children's songs are found in other collections (such as Singing Bee), but several of its folk songs are not as common in songbooks. I particularly liked finding Early One Morning, Cockles and Mussels, Tom Dooley, and Scarborough Fair. The collection is based on traditional English songs, but also has a few that are Scottish, Irish, American, Cornish, Welsh, or French.
The illustrations are frequent and colorful, with a loose style and old-timey English feel appropriate for the collection. Guitar chords are included.
Sections include:
Songs of Dance and Play (6)
Nursery Rhymes and Songs (11)
Farmers' Songs (7)
Morning Songs (4)
Fireside Songs (13)
Folk Songs (10)
Christmas Songs (13)
Evening Songs (4)
